Yes, Peter means rock and if you’ll remember his original name was Simon and Jesus named him rock. If he wasn’t THE rock upon which the church was built why did Jesus re-name him?

Jesus called Peter a STONE...

Paul often referred to Peter as a STONE...

Jesus never called Peter a rock...Jesus was a far better grammarian than to say YOU, and THIS, and expect folks to think he was referring to the same subject...

You might make that mistake but Jesus didn't...

Looking at that last sentence, by your logic, You and mistake are the same thing...

Jesus called Peter a STONE...

The word for "stone" in Koine Greek is lithos.

The word for "rock" is petra. If you switch it to a masculine gender, it's Petros. Guess what "Peter" is in Greek?

Paul often referred to Peter as a STONE...

Citation, please?

Jesus never called Peter a rock

No, actually, he named him "Rock".

"Jesus called Peter a STONE."

Wrong. He called Peter "Rock." Stone in Greek is "lithos." "Petra" in Greek means "Rock," and, because the Greek translation of the original Aramaic "Kepha" required the gender to be changed to male for the male human Simon Peter, it had to be grammatically altered to "Petros." But it will do you no good to argue the differences in Greek spelling altered the meaning of the passage. The original Aramaic, which Jesus actually spoke to Peter, needs no such alteration to satisfy Aramaic grammar. The spelling is the same in both instances: "Thou art Kepha, and on this Kepha I will build my Church."
