I hardly think the movie would be put on the Index because Nina was pregnant out of wedlock. What are you thinking? No narrative involving human beings can be without an element of sin, fallen creatures that we are. Read your Bible if you want to see lots and lots of it.
Some might think that 16th place is a low number, but at 165 screens, it is a David versus Goliath showing.
Other movies are playing at least 4 times the number of screens to just be ahead of Bella on the daily take.
Also, the website just mentioned they are adding more screens for November 2, 2007. I don't know if that also means more cities.
It may open nationwide for Thanksgiving Weekend, and it might pull in big numbers if it does.
Additionally, Neil Cavuto of Fox News had interviewed one of the stars of the film about the film...
This film might show the strength of Christians and their desire to see good movies.
A number of young people have said they identify with the movie, and find a great deal of truth in the movie, and identify it with their personal lives.
Finally, since this movie is opening during the 40 Days of Life, all the fasting and prayers WILL OPEN HEARTS TO THE PRO-LIFE MOVEMENT...
They were going to add (before this) more cities for release on November 9, 2007.
Additionally, the numbers for Monday and Tuesday are still strong. The movie actually moved up a notch on Tuesday in the rankings. But the numbers are unfair, as all of the movies ahead of it are showing their films at least 4 times the number of theaters.
The Number 1 film is showing at 20 times the number of theaters as Bella.
I hope there is a Nation Wide release of this movie by Thanksgiving (hopefully).
It is unclear if any new cities have been added, or just more theaters in existing Market cities.
Three major cities are currently not targeted for this movie: Boston, Portland, and Seattle.
But the movie is playing in Cleveland and Detroit, and will be playing in smaller cities next week.
I wonder why the bushoff of Boston, Portland, and Seattle?
This is kind of disheartening, as Saw IV is playing at 3,000+ theaters...
I don't know if this film will make it into smaller markets...
I am concerned that the most successful movie for Roadside Attractions only showed at 1,100+ screens at the same time (the movie Amazing Grace).
Maybe we need to open a prayer thread that the movie will open in more cities by Thanksgiving/Christmas with a much wider release...
Bella the Movie -- Theaters that movie will be showing at
Boston, MA, is on the list for Friday, which is a surprise and much needed addition to the list...
I'm amazed that you consider it to be well made. IMHO, they were too interested in being artistically avant garde and sacrificed the quality of the storytelling for "art." I didn't write the review below, but I could have. (It was the sentiment shared by the people I went with as well.)
Sorry. Can't recommend. The storyline is a good one and much overdue, but the camera work is miserable. MISERABLE! :( I spent at least 1/3 of the movie focusing on the "exit" sign because of the nauseating, constantly moving camera. Even at that, I ended up with a headache.
Also, the storyline was hard to follow. When we walked out of the theatre after the movie and compared notes, it was a relief to learn that everyone was confused -- not just me. Now that I know the whole story, it would be good to see the movie again to see the various scenes with a better understanding, but there's NO WAY I would sit through that miserable camera work again. EVER!!
This was a story that needed to be told. I just wish it had been told in a manner more friendly to the audience at large.
I desperately wanted to love this movie. I just can't. :(
Its about choices - the choice Jose made to accept responsibility for his actions; the choice the Chinese man in the deli made to not do that; and the choice that Nina makes with a little help from her friend.
Excellent summary!
De gustibus...
Finally, we agree!
Finally had a chance to go today. Saw it, loved it. Theatre was pretty full, but really quiet until the end. Lots of tissues and tears there at the end, even in our row.
1) You have to pay attention. The director doesn't beat you over the head ... subtle details shouldn't be missed.
2) It's rare (IMO) for a movie of any sort to feature so many likable characters. Even "Manny" (older brother who runs the restaurant), who's a sort of villain ... but I couldn't really hate him. Misguided, not evil.
