[Prophet in the wilderness]

Jesus was basically saying that upon this basic gospel truth that Jesus IS the Christ ( THE ROCK of AGES , the ROCK ) who God sent into this sinful world, and must suffer and die for our sins and be raised up on the 3rd day.... and that is the gospel in a nutshell.
We don't need to over spiritualize it, the gospel truth is plain and simple.
