I'm not Catholic, but I honestly don't understand why the Church doesn't start excommunicating these people. They obviously don't believe in anything in the Bible, and they mock the values of Church at every chance they get. "Go and sin some more"? Such a person does not believe in Christ, it's obvious. Maybe Jesus wants us to try to keep reaching out to these lost souls. One day they may be saved, but I'd really have to pray for super-strength to deal with these people.

I honestly don't understand why the Church doesn't start excommunicating these people. A whole lot of us have been wondering the same thing for a long time.

I honestly don't understand why the Church doesn't start excommunicating these people. The Church is hierarchical, but the "chain of command" isn't identical to what we're familiar with in military or corporate worlds. The Pope does indeed appoint bishops, but the bishops then hold their office in their own right ... they aren't subordinate to the Pope in the way that CPL Jones is subordinate to SGT Smith. The person responsible for excommunicating grossly scandalous public sinners in San Fransicko is the Bishop of San Fransisco.
That would be George Niederaur.
You see the problem?
First off, he needs to be appointed to some other post. Like, maybe, a cell in an isolated contemplative monastery. The monks could make sure he doesn't cause any trouble. Then, appoint a bishop with guts.

Religion isn't a sincere conviction anymore; it's an ethno-cultural birthright to which one is entitled regardless of one's beliefs or behavior and from which one can never be expelled. And these ethno-cultural "faith traditions" should continue to "evolve" to accompany the times. [/sarc]
The "brain-dead Bibliolators" (as one Catholic FReeper once called them) are the only chr*stians in the world with any integrity.

I am not a Catholic and I have been wondering the exact same thing about their church. Why do they protect those that harm children too, I just don’t get it. This is just a sincere question, I truly don’t understand any of it.
