Have anothe post in process on the historical facts vs the propaganda and deceptions about the Pope and papal succession etc. Alas, have a lot of teaching and college stuff precluding it today. Will get to it when I can.

I will note it’s rather . . . shockingly . . . something . . . amazing . . . that with the historical facts so verifiably clear . . . folks still choose to believe a lie . . . and a rather arrogant, destructive deception, at that.

I’ve never observed anything in the secular or religious world—never observed anything good to come from arrogance.

What exactly were they receiving from the Apostles?

What were they receiving from the Apostles . . . !!! INDEED.

Well, of course, they were receiving . . . according to the RC magicsterical . . .Uhhhhh . . . as opposed to the historically sound writings of the Apostles . . . .

They were obviously receiving

--Post Toasties boxtops?
--Perhaps PRE-INDULGENCES many 100's of years early?
--Oh--I got it--vials of "holy" water blessed by enterprising Popes many hundreds of years in the future sent back via a time machine? Maybe not.
--A genuine olive wood 'hand' machine carved candle holder from Bethlehem?
--A Ceaser's concession lottery ticket?
--A genuine 1" thread from one of Mary's "holy" hankies?
--A 1/4" long sliver from the truly truest truly true sliver bank of the truly truestly !!!!TRUE!!!! CROSS.

Guess the only thing that fits that I can think of is the letters and writings of the Apostles. I doubt the Bereans were comparing cross slivers to the Old Testament writings to see if the cross slivers lined up with the Scriptures.

Exactly what Acts 17:13 says: "...the word of God ...preached of Paul."

If that were so blatantly obvious you would be able to cite Scripture to make it explicit instead of playing with fonts and sarcasm.

If "Word of God" were synonymous with Scriptures, Christ would be a book.

I hope your treatment is more exhaustive than the original author's "I've studied real hard, and Sola Scriptura is obvious" variety of "proof."

As have asserted . . . Holy Spirit leads into all Truth.

Including related to The Scriptures.

I thought it was better known, even amongst the RC folks, that God sometimes hides things in plain sight.

I didn’t think the Berean thing was hidden at all. But, for some, it may be hidden in plain sight.

Perhaps you could spell out for us what YOU think they were searching???

But please, avoid suggesting that they were searching:

—Mary’s tea leaves.
—The varying glows and colors of Mary’s halo.
—Which way she folded her hanky that day.
—How much fuzz was left on her velveteen elbows.
—Whether her hair was up or down that day.
—Whether her angelic manicures had been done yet that week.
—Whether her chosen pillow for the night was satin or flannel covered; down or feece stuffed.
—Whether she genuflected or not passing an Eastern window.
—Whether she DICTATED her memoirs in cursive or BLOCK CAPITALS.
—Whether she wore blue or purple on Thursdays or Sundays.
—Whether John gave her an extra helping of fish or mutton on Fridays.
—How much her current wedding ring was close to being worn away by all the kissing of the faithful.

Some of us consider that the Bereans were a LOT more clever than to be bothered about the above.

That was quite a nice grope.

And in the areas where Paul did not preach?

That was quite a nice grope.

Can I take that as a concession despite the mockery?

And in the areas where Paul did not preach?

How is that relevant to the question of what Scriptures the Bereans were searching to qualify the word of God being preached to them?

If "Word of God" were synonymous with Scriptures, Christ would be a book.

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Don't be too hasty in your criticism...The word of God is a Spiritual book...It is unlike any other in the world...

You'll notice that when you crack open that book, that book is looking back at you...And judging you...

No. Not a concession.

Just glad you gave Paul some credit for preaching, at least.

How does that relate?

WOW.

I thought that was obvious. Sorry.

In areas where Paul had not preached . . . they must have been

searching

[drum roll . . . ]

New Testament letters of Paul . . .

New Testament writings . . .

New Testament Scriptures . . .

It’s not REALLY rocket science.

I have no problem with multiple and/or mystical meanings associated with various Biblical concepts.

Your comrades do.

After all, you can't very well claim Christ is in the book, then say it's impossible for Him to be in the Eucharist.

No, I didn't really expect a concession from you.

Still, I fail to see how giving Paul "some credit" is a "nice grope."

Please explain, because from my side it looks like you're just contradicting me with the first reason that springs to mind, and without keeping those reasons consistent from one post to the next.

How does that relate? WOW. I thought that was obvious. Sorry.

Again, I fail to see why it is, in any sense, "obvious" why anyone should understand what you were getting at.

You asked a question. I gave a perfectly reasonable answer. You asked another question to clarify my answer, to which I replied with another perfectly reasonable and Biblically consistent answer.

Then you reply with some sort of backhanded commendation, and an apparent change of subject (from what you say above) when any reasonable individual would still be expectlng a reply to the Bereans issue.

You don't concede, but instead of disputing my answers you introduce, without explaination, another subject.

What am I to think? Do you have some novel definition of "obvious," or is this more of your rhetorical bombast like font changes and multiple punctuation?

In areas where Paul had not preached . . . they must have been searching ... New Testament letters of Paul . . . New Testament writings . . . New Testament Scriptures . . .

This "must" requirement is imposed by YOU: not the Bible.

Setting aside issues of verifying the authenticity of New Testament documents at the local level, Jesus Christ commissioned men, not books.

It's not REALLY rocket science.

It has been my experience that when men think the answers to very old questions are simple, it's usually because they never understood those questions in the first place.
