Franciscans in search of a convent

I received the following email

I’m writing to you about the Franciscan Sisters Minor. They are a very primitive order of sisters, who do not use money, who beg for their daily food, no phone, no computers, TV or radio, no conveniences of any kind except the barest of necessities and who do not even use beds, but have sleeping bags on the floor. My friend, Sister Clare is one of the Professed sisters. She is a widow, mother and grandmother who has given up all comfort in retirement to live this very simple life of poverty. They are the most joyful women you’ve ever met in their holy poverty.

Her daughter, Diane, lives here in WV and keeps me informed about her mother. There are now 14 sisters. They were recently invited to go to Worcester MA to work with the bishop and live somewhere near St Paul’s Cathedral and open a convent and work (they do a lot of evangelization, door to door, parish work, summer youth ministries etc).

They need a convent.

Would you be so kind so as to put this on your blog? The sisters will not accept money donations or checks made out to them, but checks sent to them will be forwarded to the diocese, which will then buy and maintain the house for the sisters (they own nothing, not even their veils, cords, rosaries and habits). The sister will take any checks sent to their motherhouse and send them to the diocese, however.

Checks can be made to St Paul’s Cathedral/Convent and sent to:

Roman Catholic Diocese of Worcester
49 Elm St
Worcester, MA 01609
(although I wasn’t so instructed, I would think it wise to put Franciscan Sisters Minor on the memo line of the check)

OR

Our Lady of Angels Convent
Franciscan Sisters Minor
PO Box 832
West Warren MA 01092-9998

Sister Clare and the sisters moving to Worcester are staying with the family of Little Audrey Santos until the convent can be purchased.

She is a widow, mother and grandmother who has given up all comfort in retirement to live this very simple life of poverty.

Like my patron saint, Empress Helena, who lived as a servant to an order of sisters in Jerusalem, in her old age.

I suppose it's wrong to wish to be a widow able to abandon everything, someday ...

Ave Maria!

They are actually up to 15 Sisters now. They pray 8 hours a day and are very devoted to Eucharistic adoration and to the Blessed Mother (one of their apostolates is to set up the Legion of Mary at any parish they are assigned to). This is a solid group—they come to our Marian retreat center frequently. So prayers, financial help, and any prospective vocations should be sent their way without scruple! God bless...
