Didn’t St. Teresa of Avila also experience this most of her life. The fact that she went on regardless, and did what she did makes her a saint!
I don't know St. Teresa of Avila. Christians who have doubt about the existence of God raises serious questions in my mind. Paul instructs us to see that we are in the faith. How can we do that unless we know there is a faith to begin with?

And what makes a saint? That she treated sick people in India? There are many doctors who do that. That she called many people to her faith? Ghandi did that. That she sacrificed her wealth and humbled herself. Yes there are others non-Christians who have done that.
All children of God are saints. Everyone Christian has a purpose that God has ordained for us.
