Overall, this is a sad commentary on the teachings of the Catholic Church. Mother Teresa, as a good Catholic, relied on the teachings of the 'Church' to be her 'foundation of faith' and what was the result? A state of confusion and uncertainty.

What is one of the tennets of the Catholic Church? That a person can NOT know if they are saved or not. (The sin of Presumption.)

But is that really what Jesus taught and wanted of His followers? To never really know and to be in a constant state of questioning? No! What's my proof? Well here's a short list...

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
Acts 2:21 And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
1John 5:12&13 He that hath the Son hath life; [and] he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Obviously, Mother Teresa placed more faith in the teachings of the Church then in the teachings of the Scripture.

Is living in fear and anxiety about your own salvation a full and abundant life? I certainly don't think so. So why did Jesus say this?

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly.

Sincerely

>> A state of confusion and uncertainty. <<

Her actions demonstrate no confusion or uncertainty. All I know is that some journalist took quotes out of context.

>> (The sin of Presumption.) <<

The sin of Presumption is the notion that commiting moral sin is okay, because it will be forgiven. Catholics absolutely, positively know whether they are in a state of grace, based on Catholic doctrine.

>> Obviously, Mother Teresa placed more faith in the teachings of the Church then in the teachings of the Scripture. <<

Any lack of faith in God is perfectly commensurate with any lack of faith in the teachings of the Catholic Church.

>> Is living in fear and anxiety about your own salvation a full and abundant life? I certainly don’t think so. So why did Jesus say this? <<

Paul said, “Work out your salvation in fear and trembling.”

The sin of presumption is the sin of believing you can commit any sin, die unrepentant of it, and still go to heaven, or alternatively, that you can commit any sin and expect the grace of repentance as if it were your due.

A Catholic can have a moral, though not an infallible, certainty that he or she is in a state of grace and an heir of heaven.
