It is God’s grace that gives us faith. But we have the freewill to accept or reject that grace.

If God gives us faith, how can we but not accept it? Faith is simply that, faith. God doesn't come to us and ask us if we want faith. This seems like simple logic to me.

This is Protestant teaching. Well, at least it was at one time.

More learned men than I have asked that question. All I know is that we can only have faith through the Grace of God. Why some people ignore the call to faith, I don’t know. I believe very strongly that God is always the first instrument of our salvation. We do not save ourselves. We can continue on the path of salvation by our faith and our works of love. But without the Grace that first put us on that path we are struggling in vain.

My faith and my works of love are really God’s. I return them to Him for His glory. So that all can see His works in my life. I admit I return way too little for all He has done for me. So prayer and repentence and the joy of forgiveness sure come in handy.

I believe that if God should ever stop thinking of and/or loving us we would cease to exist. That is how closely we are tied to our Creator.
