Ave Maria!

There is such an impoverishment of manly spirituality in our day that our Father Delegate, Fr. Angelo Mary Gieger, FI, has devoted much of his priestly ministry to reviving Catholic chivalry .

He has even developed an entire website for the cause: Maryvictrix.com. [Please do not look at the link if you are a radical feminist or think that it's okay for two men to be "married" since Fr. Angelo Geiger's presentations might raise your blood pressure] ;-]

Attending CCD in the 70’s was nearly fatal to my faith. If it wasn’t for a fairly rigid and masculine Jesuit education in an all boys high school (by old time Jesuits) I may not be in the pews every Sunday.

I like the idea of muscle T’s but at the older side of Generation X, I wouldn’t mind some other options. It’s cool though.

I definitely see evidence of Generation X Catholics being more conservative and orthodox than the baby boomers.

My niece told me that in her Diocese, 5 priests and two seminarians have a basketball team called "Men in Black." They take on all comers in large gyms and agree to donate the proceeds to charity. Young guys flock to these games and the MIB are good to boot!

I’m inspired and hope to have the courage and strength to follow through!

The parish closest to me in is the quasi-Catholic type addressed in this article.
I’ve had clashes with the lay leaders and only attend at this parish when schedule needs make it necessary.

It’s time I rejoin the fight, instead of allowing these pretenders to prevail, and limping off to a more traditionally Catholic parish.

The plan is to be able to cite specifics from the Catechism and the Bible, and try to remove some of the emotion from my arguments.
I’m pretty comfortable with my Biblical references, but need to be able to refute the nonsensical assertions that Vatican II and the Catechism allow for certain abuses.

it can be quite plausibly said that the post-conciliar Church in this country has, for all intents and purposes, been run by women.

The Church in this country has always been run by women. I would go so far as to say the Church in this country was built by women: the sisters who taught millions of children in Catholic schools over the last two centuries.

Good seminaries are not simply enjoying a serendipitous influx of manlier applicants; they’re expressly targeting them. In what ought instantly to become the mantra of every rector and vocations director in the country, Monsignor Rohlfs tells how he seeks candidates who “exude a personality of quiet confidence and strength”; who demonstrate “an ability to relate to men and to fathers of families, as well as to children as a spiritual father”; and finally, “a spirituality that brings together the best qualities of a man.”

... And the conversations at support groups, Monsignor Swetland adds, “aren’t all psychobabble like they used to be.”

Great post. Thanks.

Sorry, but I’ve got to brag a bit. Ron Bolster, now at Stuebenville, was formerly the Director of Catechetics for my Diocese, the Diocese of Peoria. Msgr. Sweatland was formerly the head of the Newman Center at the University of Illinois in Champaign(also in the Diocese of Peoria) and Msgr. Rohlf’s was formerly our Vicar General. As a Diocese we have truly been blessed by the work of these men and our priests and catechetical programs well reflect their work. The legacy of Archbishop Fulton Sheen continues.
