The REVISED STANDARD VERSION??? Isn’t that the updating of none other than the KING JAMES bible? I’m horrified! It should at least be a bible that isn’t consciously and conspicuously anti-Catholic, no? Like maybe Douay-Rheims, or even the Jerusalem Bible?

He doesn’t recommend the RSV for Mass — just noting that it is the best English translation. He also notes there is a Catholic edition of RSV.

Actually, the RSV-CE (Catholic Edition) is excellent. The general consensus among orthodox Catholic Scripture scholars is that it is the best translation out there in more-or-less Modern English. The motivation for its publication over 100 years ago was to “clean up” the many errors in the KJV. To this end, it was quite successful. The Catholic Edition (available from Ignatius Press and Sceptre Press - are they still around, haven’t seen them for a few years?), goes a step further and edits some of the more problematic uses of “elder” for “priest” and the like. But, if you’re looking for a translation that has the accuracy and gravitas of the Douay with the readability of a more modern English style, this is the Bible for you.
