As I recall, the RSV-CE actually is an approved text for Mass readings, but the bishops, in a conspiracy of consensus, have all but eliminated anything but the NAB. There is probably something to the observation earlier on this thread that copyrights and royalties may have more to do with this than anything doctrinal!
Not sure what you mean (not about the royalties — that’s clear enough!) — do you mean the RSV-CE is approved by Rome and the USCCB as a group insist on the awful NAB or have individual bishops insisted on the NAB in their dioceses? Or something else?
Oh, and BTW — I wonder where you saw those abuses in Boston. I live in Boston (Southie) and I’ve really only gone to Mass in Southie or Arch Street (before the new rector) and never saw anything like that.
