Part of the problem with American society is that we want to define the truth. This is why Protestant Churches flourish here. And the prevalence of hyper-individualism in America is largely the result of Sola-Scriptura Protestantism. It's no accident that most Americans confuse freedom with license. True freedom is the power to do good, not to do whatever I please.
