Bill Clinton’s forebears and mine were on those trails long before the Mormons. They may have done a bit of improvement later on of course, but they didn’t find Salt Lake first!
They actually did blaze the trail into the Salt Lake Basin, interestingly enough; the existing trails simply went around.

Where is the claim that the Mormons found Salt Lake City first? The Catholics were in Utah before the Mormons, they established a couple of missions here. The trappers were here before the Mormons. And Brigham Young pored over maps after the martyrdom of Joseph Smith to find a place where the members of the Church of Jesus of Latter-Day Saints could emigrate to and not be persecuted and driven out of their homes for their religious beliefs.
Who said they found Salt Lake first? Certainly wasn’t anyone who is Mormon. How about keeping it real, ok? You don’t like Mormons, say so, and maybe even say why. Don’t blow smoke...
