And since each Bible was only copied out at the labour of thousands of hours of priestly labour, what would you have them do? It wasn’t that the printing press was able to turn out approximately one per second, you know?

Plus, the vast majority of the populace was illiterate. You know, unable to read. Not unlike some modern populations. What would you have the Church to do? It couldn’t afford the resources to accurately translate the Bible into the vernacular and still maintain its production of non Gutenberg Bibles.

Not true.. Koine greek and patois of it was..
