In all the hub-bub about the Pope's long-anticipated motu proprio, "Summorum Pontificum" it seems hardly anyone paid attention to the other things happening today at the Vatican. They held the Giuramento (i.e. Oath-Taking) for Tarcisio Cardinal Bertone who has now officially taken on the position of Camerlengo (Chamberlain) of the Holy Roman Church. The ceremony is usually small and quiet. Today's was in the Chapel of Urban VIII. The Pope actually hands over to him a baton of office. This baton is a stick about two feet in length covered in red velvet with a braid at one end.
The OTHER interesting appointment is that of our pal, Piero Marini, as adjunct Secretary of the Pontifical Commission "Ecclesia Dei". This is the authority that will oversee the implementation of the Pope's new directives concerning the use of the older form of the Roman Rite as an extraordinary form of the mass. Gee! Is it that the Pope is just SO happy with the job Piero is doing as Papal MC that he wanted to reward him with more liturgical goodies? Or...could it be that this is one step out the door to make room for someone else in the Office of Pontifical Liturgical Celebrations? I guess we'll just have to wait and see!
The most public role of the one who holds this office occurs in the event of the Pope's death, an event which it is his to announce and communicate - at least to the Dean of the College of Cardinals and the Roman Curia. He then becomes acting head of state for the Vatican City State, although the office is not nearly as powerful as it was prior to Pope John Paul II's legislation set forth in the Apostolic Constitution Universi Dominici Gregis of 1996, in which many of the Camerlengo's former powers are assumed by the College of Cardinals under its Dean (at the time of John Paul's death, Cardinal Ratzinger).
But that is not what stopped hearts!
The blog went on to announce - in a rather snide way (surprising, since the "team" of bloggers appears to be a group of clergy vested in very beautiful copes!) - the appointment of the Most Reverend Piero Marini, Archbishop and Papal Master of Ceremonies, as adjunct Secretary of the Pontifical Commission "Ecclesia Dei."
"Our pal," as they call this Archbishop. "Piero," whose "one step out the door" they celebrate.
Of course, the information they're passing on, however desirable it may be to some, is completely erroneous!

Per mandato del Santo Padre, l’Em.mo Card. Darío Cástrillón Hoyos, Presidente della Pontificia Commissione "Ecclesia Dei" ha nominato Segretario Aggiunto della medesima Pontificia Commissione il Rev.do Mons. Mario Marini.
The nominee is a Marini - but it must be the Archbishop's - their "pal" "Piero"'s - long-lost cousin, MARIO!!!
As we've learned with the Mainstream Media, it's always dangerous to obtain one's ecclesiastical news from sources that have an ideological axe to grind - even if it's a religious one!

Let's hope that he's cut from a different cloth than "our pal, Piero."

The clown or clowns in charge of that blog have now made a correction - simply by removing that paragraph, NOT by making a public acknowledgment of their error.

Yes. I noticed that when I checked back there after I saw that Fr. Z had pointed out the mistake.
Disappointing that they didn’t acknowledge the mistake.
