In relation to the Times report of 29th June that 'Gene Robinson is to be invited to the Lambeth Conference of the Anglican Church next summer', it should be noted that there is no change to the Archbishop of Canterbury's decision not to invite the Bishop of New Hampshire to the conference as a participating bishop. It is still being explored whether Bishop Robinson might attend in another status but no invitation has been issued.

Canterburys olive branch to gay bishop

Gay Bishop V. Gene Robinson has been invited to the Lambeth Conference of the Anglican Church for summer 2008, prompting dissenting cries from Anglicans nationwide.
The controversial Robinson, who was consecrated as Bishop of New Hampshire in 2003, tried to visit the UK for an Anglican conference in 2004 but canceled at the last minute because of death threats and security fears.
As Robinson withdrew, he noted that his participation in the debate would not be in the best interests of the Anglican Communion at this delicate moment in its history, referring to the ever-anticipated Anglican schism.
The invitation is likely to result in the withdrawal of support from ultra-conservative Nigerian bishops.
Bishop Robinson, an official guest to the conference, will not, however, have the right to vote on motions at the conference.
The 2008 conference marks the international meeting of the Anglican community that takes place every 10 years. (Hassan Mirza, (Gay.com U.K.)
