Sunday was made Holy in the Ressurection by God himself.
Those who deny Christ to this day reject God’s sacrifice.
I'm aware it was compiled around the date you mention. I can't imagine you would dispute when it was written. In case you're having trouble it was back when many Jews participated before the Human divinity program was introduced.
constantine never made Christianity the state religion either *sigh* does anyone know history?!?
he says as he removes his brazier...lol.
I happened upon both an Orthodox and a Byzantine Catholic church hear Port Clinton, Ohio last week. Neither were open at the time I was there. Too bad.
I’d have loved to have seen what there services were like.
I can’t recall where I read it, but there’s some dispute that Henry VIII “broke away from” the RCC over the divorce. What I read was that he intentionally reverted to the (orthodox) Celtic Christianity that pre-dated the RCC in England/Scotland. I can’t recall where I read it, so I can’t point you to it. It is a fact, though, that Celtic Christianity pre-dated the RCC in England/Scotland.
Also, it’s fairly difficult to say that baptists don’t consider themselves part of John’s ministry that included the Christ. They aren’t claiming a “historical” lineage; they are claiming a “spiritual” one.
Theodosius I was the guy who made Christianity the official state religion in 391.
Yep, but I think it took the RCC to fully convert the Saxons & Angles, the ruling class. I think Henry had some Welsh roots in his lineage, but I'd need to do a bit of research to prove it.
are there no orthodox churches near you normally?
i just really hate how this freakish davinci code conspiracy like garbage has so infilitrated the public mind that Constantine was so pivotal in Christian history; he stopped persecuting Christians and on the advise of his spiritual father (Hosius of Cordoba) asked Christians to all ‘get along’. For centuries that was MORE THAN ENOUGH.
You have a good point, for instance the language is off..it should refer to “Faith” or “Faith Tradition” not religion when talking about various Christian bodies.
Christians regardless of Faith Tradition are of one religion as opposed to Muslim or Jewish or Buddhist.
Language is important.
What Knox taught, Calvin had taught. What Calvin taught, Augustine had taught. What Augustine taught, Paul had taught.
Basic precept of the article is faulty.
No, I’m in the middle of southern appalachian Ohio. My guess is that the closest is in Cincinnati proper....about 2 hours away.
Also, of course, I’m a pastor, so regular worship hours I’m already occupied.
try saturday evenings or feast days then...

As mentioned, these are all a couple hours or more away from me. But, Saturdays or feast days might work. Thanks for the leg work.
another advantage of going saturday evening or feast day mornings would be you’re likely to get a sense of who the folks are who are always there as opposed to those there occasionally on sundays...
that said we don’t often attend saturdays or feast days as we’re over an hour from both parishes we go to... (there is an antiochian church 20 minutes from here but they don’t serve liturgy on feast days)
What'd he say, Martha?
Not sure Clyde, something about how old his Bible is.
Thanks. I’ve always wanted to see an orthodox service, but haven’t yet. I’ve seen those of so many other denominations, but orthodox wasn’t really possible. Hopefully, it’ll work out.
The English people were strongly attached to the Catholic faith and liturgy. So was Henry VIII. It is not insignificant that he enforced the Six Articles (Latin liturgy, celebate priests, lay Communion in one kind, private Mass, confession/penance, relics) in an effort to quash the Protestant movement. When Archbishop Cranmer was finally able to publish an English liturgy (BCP 1549), the result was essentially an English translation of the Old Sarum Rite liturgies.
The fiecely independant English people were not fans of the Pope. They saw him not as the spirtual leader of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, but as a pawn of foreign rulers who did not exactly have England’s best interests in mind (considering that Emperor Charles V held Pope Clement VII captive, the English had a very strong reason to be leery).
When Henry VIII ended Papal authority, nobody really resisted him. He met only small half hearted resistance when he closed the monasteries (the Pilgrimage of Grace). It would not be until after his death, when the nation swung way over to the Protestant side that the people began to object.
This is a point that needs emphasizing over and over again.
The One Catholic and Apostolic Church is not MY church. It is the Church that Jesus Christ established on Earth. It’s His. Not mine, not yours and not any human being’s. Martin Luther formed a church. So did Jimmy Swaggart and Ted Haggard. So did L. Ron Hubbard, for that matter. So did John Smyth. So did Mary Baker Eddy. So did the Campbells. All proud enough to form their own church. With the fiction that they were smart enough to interpret Scripture on their own, regardless of Scripture’s own command not to do that.
I’ve been blessed with the grace of God and been able to follow Him by following His Church, and through Her, His teachings. The Orthodox Catholics, as has been very well explained here, have some internal differences from Rome. No problem. We are all one Church.
