"I challenge all parishes and individual Catholics to pray for and with all those affected by this (immigration) crisis, to become educated on the reality of immigration in our country, to work for the creation of a just and realistic immigration policy," the bishop wrote.

It’s nice to see Bishops having the cojones to speak out on political issues, good or bad.

Christ said, “It’s better to pluck out your eye than to be cast into Hell”. So therefore I hardly think immigration would something Christ would care about, Father Goofusbutt. Quit hiding behind Jesus and mop your own floor!

The problem is now is that we are sacrificing our land, homes and medical services to care for blatant lawbreakers. When is it going to be enough?

Bishop, when a thief breaks into your house he is not always looking for food or compassion...

This guy is definitely not sounding very sympathetic to the idea that we might well need more Hindus with doctorates, and Pakistani engineers.

"to recognize Christ in the person of every immigrant"

Yet another who fails to make a distinction between legal and illegal immigrants. (I suspect the bishop is referring to the latter group).

By all means, let us "recognize Christ" in them.

....and then deport 'em en masse.

When you are standing in line at the DMV and someone tries to butt in, they are told, "Go to the back of the line." This is basic justice here.

As for recognizing Christ in them, Christ isn't in all of them. For those who are true believers, why are they breaking our laws?

I can go along with the pray for all involved statement. That's it.

The 'good' bishop is encouraging people to break the law, and to 'bare false witness'. Not to save their lives. Not for freedom of worship. All for 'filthy lucre'. Where is the Christ in that?

Absolutely we should love our neighbors as ourselves; and absolutely God is color blind and blind to nationalities. God trieth and knoweth the hearts ('...for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart'.).

But how is it love to encourage people to break the laws? How is it love to effectively penalize those that do obey the laws (e.g., wait in line for years to immigrate legally into the land)?

I have zero respect for pretenders of the faith, no matter what titles they bestow upon themselves, who take what they want out of Scripture to buttress their political arguments - but ignore the Message. Christ is our focus. Not the 'Almighty Dollar'. There is nothing wrong with being poor, and those who have (on their own volition -- not at the end of the taxman's gun) should give to those who have not. But while we sojourn here on the earth -- follow the laws of the land (as long as they don't work contrary to the laws of God). Don't break the laws to gather more 'stuff'...

Boise Bishop Driscoll is one of the worst. I pray that the illegals will start respecting the laws of our country. No amnesty.

Fine, but that still doesn’t mean I have to welcome people who came here illegally.

Recognize nations, bishop.

Christ instituted them at the Tower of Babel.

work for the creation of a just and realistic immigration policy," the bishop wrote.

The bill currently dying a slow death in the Senate is not that 'just and realistic' policy.

This is a pretty vanilla statement. Lots of generalities.

I don't know about the bishop, but I'm having a touch of difficulty seeing the face of Christ in the jihadis in our midst who would love nothing more than to convert or kill every resident of the bishop's diocese.

Boise Bishop Michael P. Driscoll, in a pastoral statement on immigration, called on the people and parishes of his diocese "to recognize Christ in the person of every immigrant"

Then he said something snide and nasty about "rednecks," right?
