The Presbyterian Church (USA) lost 46,544 more members in 2006, continuing an ongoing decline that has seen the loss of 225,308 members in just the past five years.

Membership in the denomination dropped from 2,313,662 in 2005 to 2,267,118 in 2006, according to annual statistics released by the Office of the General Assembly.

That membership total is a drop of almost half – 45.7 percent – of the 4,254,597 members it had in 1965, the year that the PCUSA and its predecessor denominations reached their highest total numbers of members.

PCA churches, meanwhile, appear to be growing in our area.

Some of the urban PCA presbyteries are drifting toward liberalism, as well.

Their hostility to I Cor 12-14 is not impressive.

Not exactly. It is their hostility to some people's interpretation of I Corinthians 12-14 that you are not impressed with. That particular interpretation is certainly not a 'majourity report' of the church.

I just know that Holy Spirit brought an uncommon man via a chance meeting with the college President of the PCA college in Taipei/Tamshui . . . and the fellow was having a great impact—hearts were being turned toward God and students and staff were seeking God more until some parochial sensibilities got jangled and he was banished.

Here's an interesting passage that follows Paul's rebuke of the Corinthian church for being proud of having many teachers:

Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you. But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord wills, and I will know, not the word of those who are puffed up, but the power. For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power. 1 Cor 4:18-20

INDEED. Excellent verse.
