For all I know, this guy could be Plymouth Brethren. There is a reactionary strand there that considers anything "gathered to a name other than Jesus" to be apostate. Presbyterians, to hear this self-styled preacher "gather around the name of Presbyterianism." (I once asked him if he know what Presbyterians believed, and he couldn't answer.)

I severed almost all ties (retaining only family ties and friendships) to the Plymouth Brethren after that guy said that "Only in the [Plymouth Brethren] is there liberty to worship in Spirit and in Truth." I knew I had to sever all ties when I was the only person who found that offensively wrong.
