... and died shortly thereafter in grace. Or shall we say, grace won him. Grandpa had made the First Fridays — many times.

Fr. E. seems to be implying that "making the First Fridays" many times is somehow more effective than doing so once.

Of course, attending Mass and receiving Communion is extremely valuable on any day. However, it seems to me that, if the promise of the apparition is worth anything, then it's good just the once. To suggest that doing it many times is more effective than once seems like gambling, or insurance ... piling up "chips," as it were.

It's not the late gentleman's attendance that strikes me as rather "off," since we know nothing about his intentions other than that he was devout (indeed, went to Mass daily). It's Father E's interpretation that raised my antennae.
