Introduction

Nestorius, who had been condemned in a council at Rome on 11 August 430, asked the emperor Theodosius II to summon this council. The emperor therefore decided to summon it together with his co-emperor Valentinian III and with the agreement of Pope Celestine I. Theodosius's letter of 19 November 430 requested all those who had been summoned to be present at Ephesus on 7 June 431, the feast of Pentecost.

No, I didn’t forget. Salvation, would you be so kind as to post the links to the previous two threads? Thank you!

“The English translation is from the Greek text, which is the more authoritative version.”

But of course! :)

Isn’t this just magnificent:

“For scripture does not say that the Word united the person of a man to himself, but that he became flesh. The Word’s becoming flesh means nothing else than that he partook of flesh and blood like us; he made our body his own, and came forth a man from woman without casting aside his deity, or his generation from God the Father, but rather in his assumption of flesh remaining what he was.”

Our priest started last Sunday on a series of sermons about each of the 7 Ecumenical Councils.

Reading about this Council really depresses me. It was after this that our churches went their separate ways for the next 1500 years. We’re in communion now though.

You have united O Lord
Your divinity with our humanity
And our humanity with your divinity.
Your life with our mortality
And our mortality with Your life.
You have assumed what is ours,
And you have give us what is Yours,
For the life and salvation of our souls.
To You be glory forever.

I am jealous of you and your priest. I would treasure some sermons on like this. As I said to Kawaii as we battled on another thread, I pray that someday we are indeed one, because the Church will be even stronger and complete.

Let us not forget that this council also condemned the heresy of Pelagianism.

“I am jealous of you and your priest.”

He is a fine young man and a blessing to us, an expensive blessing, but well worth it. :) It has been fun to watch him (and his family) “grow” into his position over the past nearly 6 years.

He is a fine young man and a blessing to us, an expensive blessing...

You almost make that sound as if there would have been another option.

Oh there are other options...we’ve taken them. We won’t again. :)

Ah, perhaps I should have said "You almost make that sound as if there would have been another viable option."
