HBOs Real Time with Bill Maher ran a show on May 18repeated throughout this weekthat began with an attack on the late Rev. Jerry Falwell and then devolved into an assault on Catholicism:
And its easy to start a religion! Watch, I'll do it for you: I had a vision last night! A vision! The Blessed Virgin Mary came to meI dont know how she got past the guardsand she told me its high time to take the high ground from the Seventh Day Adventists and give it to the 24-hour party people. And what happens in the confessional stays in the confessional. Gay men, dont say youre life partners, say youre a nunnery of two. We werent having sex, officer, I was performing a very private Mass, here in my car. I was letting my rod and staff comfort him. Take this and eat of it, [our emphasis] for this is my roommate Barry. And for all those who believe there is a special place for you in Kevin.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded this way:
We are writing to the 14 members who sit on the board of directors of Time Warner (the parent company of HBO) asking each of them whether Mahers gratuitous and highly offensive attack on Jesus Christ merits the same punishment afforded Imus for his racist remark. Maher is a serial anti-Catholic bigot who mocked the Eucharist as recently as April 16.
Time Warners Standards of Business Conductrevised last month by the board of directorsincludes the following principle: While our content may sometimes engender controversy, we want no one to question our character. We know Maher lacks character. What the public needs to know is whether Time Warners board has any.
And so it continues unabated.
No, they don’t.
Do people even watch HBO anymore?
We'll see if anyone joins.
Bill Maher looks like the illegimate son of Hugh Hefner, and if he is, he was raised in a cathouse which accounts for his abysmal ignorance.
It takes a lot to shock me, and I’m not even a Catholic, but I’m shocked. There is a time and place for using the expression “filthy,” and the word is used too much, but this is thoroughly filthy.
Maher is very wrong, profoundly and angrily estranged from the Lord. He follows the opposite path from the one suggested by Paul, to pursue what is true and beautiful. We should pray for him.
This is nothing more than blasphemy against God. It is my belief this is one area you don't really want to mess with.
Here is a quote for Donohue on his opinion of Hollywood and Jews.
“Hollywood is controlled by secular Jews who hate Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular. Its not a secret, OK?”

I do not think that Donohue is in a position to call anyone a Bigot.
“Mel Gibson represents the mainstream of America.”
Did you bother to read what Maher said? I don’t care who called him out on it. If you do, what’s wrong with you?
Maher is a Bigot.
Donohue is also a Bigot.
Is that better?
I think ignoring his shtick is the way to go here.
When the Muslims take over and America adopts sharia, Maher will be separated from his head at the point of an Islamic scimitar. Until then, let him blather.
Donahue is right.
So you’ve picked out one interview where Donohue was an idiot and compared the words “secular Jew” (note the “secular”) to the low class rantings of a serial bigot.
What’s your point?
How have you been?
Donohue, when he rants about the “Jews controlling Hollywood” or states that Mel Gibson is in the mainstream of America is more than an idiot and bigot but an embarrassment to the Faith.
Right about what?
I do - but make a point to change the channel when Bill makes an appearance
The poor fool reminds me of an idiot ranting to a shrink about his “abusive” parents, who “abused” him by having a second child.
