The LDS are Christians whether you acknowledge it or not has little effect.

Ah, so that's what you meant.

Yes, I suppose that is the argument. When someone says that Mormons are not Christians, most Mormons are mystified. We consider ourselves Christians, and cannot see why anyone else would say otherwise.

Personally, I like to specify what I mean by the adjective Christian, and explain why I believe it applies to me. To those who insist on differentiating, I suggest they call us "nontraditional Christians." (In jest, I once suggested "heretical Christians," but fortunately that never caught on!)

Either way, we will continue to call ourselves Christians. That does not mean we wish to align ourselves with any other group calling itself Christian. It simply reflects how we see ourselves.
