ROCKVILLE CENTRE, New York, APRIL 5, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI accepted the resignation of Bishop Emil Wcela, 75, and named Monsignor Peter Libasci to replace him as auxiliary bishop of Rockville Centre.

Rev. Peter Libasci, born in Queens, NY.
49 years old; son of the late William and the late Florence
Brother of the late Lorraine Libasci Hardy
Brother of William Libasci; Mary Libasci Lobel; and Elizabeth Libasci Daly.
Five nephews and two nieces.
Studied in Catholic elementary and secondary schools. Earned Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from St. John's University, Jamaica, NY
Entered St. Meinrad School of Theology, St. Meinrad, Indiana in 1973

St. Meinrad Archabbey is located in Southern Indiana, just about fifty miles west of Louisville, Kentucky. In 1852 the Benedictine monks of Einsiedeln, Switzerland (established in the Ninth Century and still very active to the present day), came to the United States and established a monastery in what is presently the town of St. Meinrad, Indiana. The monks established a high school, a college and a seminary for the formation of priests.
I continue to visit both St. Meinrad, Indiana and the Abbey of Einsiedeln, Switzerland whenever opportunity arises.

Ordained a priest April 1, 1978.
While serving at my former assignment - Our Lady of Good Counsel in Inwood, NY, I returned to St. John's University to earn the Master of Arts in Catechetical Theology. Many issues of the Twenty-first Century require on-going study and awareness. From a philosophical or theological point of view, one must not find one's self unaware of current critical analysis.

I have been interested in the art and music of the Middle Ages and enjoy visits to the Metropolitan Museum's Cloisters in Upper New York City. I was a frequent subscriber to the offerings of the Waverly Consort when they performed at the Cloisters and Alice Tully Hall and also, at Christmas time, when they would perform in full Medieval costume, playing authentic instruments, at the church of St. Mary the Virgin in New York City.

Having served at the Catholic Parish of St. Therese in Montauk for two years now, I find that Montauk continues to surprise me time and time again. The natural surroundings, in their own way, are extraordinary, but also the talent, the charitable works, the powerhouse of good will found among the people who live here all unite to accomplish noteworthy contributions to many noble causes. While one can appreciate the natural resources here, one must also recognize and appreciate the people whose lives contribute to the unique character of Montauk.

I like the Waverly Consort, too. But his hair looks fake.
