More Evidence Pius XII Was Not Hitler's Pope - German Files Point to a Russian Plot
Zenit News Agency ^ | April 2, 2007

Posted on 04/03/2007 2:32:00 AM PDT by NYer

ROME, APRIL 2, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Adolf Hitler's No. 1 enemy was the Vatican's secretary of state, Eugenio Pacelli, future Pope Pius XII, according to documents recently found in Europe.

In an article published last Thursday by La Repubblica, reporter Marco Ansaldo announced that he has a dossier on Pius XII that complements documentation found in the Vatican Archives.

According to the newly discovered documents, Pius XII was considered an enemy of the Third Reich. Memos and letters unearthed at a depot used by the Stasi, the East German secret police, show that Nazi spies within the Vatican were concerned at the Pope's efforts to help displaced Poles and Jews.

One document from the head of Berlin's police force tells Joachim von Ribbentrop, the Third Reich's foreign minister, that the Catholic Church was providing assistance to Jews "both in terms of people and financially."

Russia's motives

In a commentary on the new documents, Sister Margherita Marchione, author and expert on Pius XII, explains the campaign against the Pope was the work of the Soviets.

"Russia's plans were to control Europe after the war. The only outspoken obstacle to Russia's plan in Europe was the Catholic Church," Sister Marchione wrote.

"The first attacks claiming that the Church had endorsed silently the atrocities of the Nazis came from Communist Russia," she explained. "Soon to control Poland, and other vast areas in Eastern Europe, Russia saw the need to break the loyalty to the Pope of Catholic majorities in those countries.

"The plan was a simple one: convince everyone that the Pope supported the hated Nazis during the war and, therefore, neither he nor the Church could be trusted after the war. The destruction of the Church would leave the field wide open for Russian influence and control."

Your rebuttal is noted (and without the scatological references you've chosen to employ.)

(Dr. E) Cornwell is a practicing Catholic who actually went fairly easy on Pacelli.

You're lies never end.

Is John Cornwell a practicing Catholic?

Do I remember correctly you claim to have read Hitler's Pope?

The fact is, Cornwell has a primarily positive view of Pius XII.

I guess we'll have to take this websites' word for it, since none of us has come up with any British copies, only the accurate American first edition.

Interestingly, you trash Cornwell for judging the "motivations" of Pacelli, but then you proceed to do just that by assuming that if this photo was incorrectly labeled it must have been done for nefarious reasons.

Regardless, every U.S. copy of this book is correctly labeled. Thanks for further showing us therefore that every photo in this American edition is accurate. There are plenty of photos in my copy that display Pacelli's actions, and thus go a long way in revealing his true heart.

From your website...

'When I criticized Cornwell for his use of this photograph in an exchange we had in Brill's Content magazine (April 2000), he said only the worst form of apologist would criticize photographic evidence.  He also said that not everyone was so ignorant of history as to associate the distinctive helmets with the Nazis..."

Frankly, I'm glad we've come to the end of this cover photo disparity because perhaps we can now concentrate on the text and all the other photos which stand in clear and truthful support of the book's title.

Yep. This thread led me to find our copy and read it again. I'm struck by just how gentle Cornwell is on Pacelli.

If all this was true, then why did Hitler need the Enabling Act to be passed?

The Enabling Act giving Hitler power was in place before the concordat. We can both speculate why Hitler wanted the concordat, but that would just be speculation. However, we can draw conclusions based on the facts:

    1. The Enabling Act giving Hitler power was in place.

    2. During the negotiations preceding the concordat, Hitler arrested 92 priests.

    3. During the negotiations preceding the concordat, Hitler closed down nine Catholic publications.

    4. The Four-Power Pact between the Nazis, Britain, France, and Italy was in place.

    5. Protestants made their own agreements with Hitler before the Catholic concordat.

    6. In Pacelli's own words, the purpose of the Reichskonkordat was: "not only the official recognition (by the Reich) of the legislation of the Church (its Code of Canon Law), but the adoption of many provisions of this legislation and the protection of all Church legislation."

My conclusion: The concordat was agreed to by the Catholics to protect the right of Catholics in Germany to worship.

You conclusion: The concordat brought Hitler to power.

You conclusion is fantasy.

Right there in Matthew 16:17 and in heaven and his bones are in that ossuary on the Mount of Olives there in Jerusalem.

I thought we just established that Simon was the name on the box, not Peter. There was only one Peter at the time but many Simons.

this supposed temporary "elimination of the Catholic Church in the Reich" would have been a small price to pay to save so many lives.

Please explain your theory of how the elimination of the Catholic Church in Germany was going to save lives?

My response fell to the level of your proof. You’re proof is, what, “everybody knows that?”

BS

FYI, the RCC hates this book so much that they’ve bought up the domain name “Hitler’s Pope.”

Let's see your proof that the Roman Catholic Church is who bought this domain name. A Catholic may have bought it, but I doubt the Church bought it. Let's see your proof.

His standard proof is easy to duplicate:

“It’s true. Everybody knows it.”

Wasn't that Peter to whom Jesus was speaking there in Matthew 16:17??? How did he address Peter there??? Was it as "Simon BarJonah"???

I love how the anti-Catholic trolls constant posting of this thread keeps bumping through the queue this headline:

If there are non-Catholics here claiming that deal with them rather than painting me with your tar brush.

With all due respect, Old Reggie, I didn't paint you. I asked a question.

Have you read it and do you believe that Pacelli/Pius XII conspired with the Nazis to bring Hitler to power as some of the non-Catholics here are claiming?
Please don't falsely accuse me of painting you.

Yes, that was Peter, as the Bible says. But that does not mean Simon BarJonah on the box is Peter.

Dear Titanites,

Actually, WHOIS reveals that the website is owned by someone named Regan Wick of Denville, New Jersey.

A quick google reveals that Regan Wick owns a dance studio in Denville, New Jersey (as well, apparently, schools in Colorado and Washington, DC).
