Every Catholic reads the bible when they attend mass. By attending mass on Sundays for 3 years, one reads the entire bible. by attending mass daily for one year, one reads the bible. After the readings a priest, with a M.Div. degree from a real seminary, interprets the readings. and I’ll let some PROTESTants know a little secret that their pastors don’t let on: catholics and other protestant denominations use the same lectionary and proclaim the same readings and the same cycles of readings every Sunday. can you imagine that?

Hi Coleus,

I don't think the main stream protestants hate us Catholics as much as the fundamentalists do. The fundamentalists are the ones that are just as nasty as they can be. It is hellish trying to talk to a fundamentalist. They act like they are all spaced out in a weird cult or something. Instead of responding, they launch into a two page diatribe. They win by wearing their perceived opponent out with all of their crazy words. The other person gets tired and gives up.

So if you miss a Sunday, do you have to wait another 2 years to read the part of the bible that you missed?

Pop Quiz....what did you preist “read” to you last week. Come on....come on....I know you were listening......weren’t you?

The reason I asked this question you responded to, was because I personally know (friends and family) who have been in the church their entire lives and they don’t know anything about the bible. They don’t even really know why they called themeselves Christians. Many times they just say that because they have always gone to church, born into a Catholic family, and that is why they are Catholic. It wasn’t by choice or knowledge. I know this is not true of only Catholics, it is true of all denominations. I just find this more prevalent in my friends and family who are of that denomination. Why? Just curiois? Honestly, that is why I asked the question.

I just think that if you are going to call yourself a Christian, and let it define who you are, then you should know something about the God you follow. Don’t you?
