I was raised Episcopalian but am in the process (very slow, for me) of becoming Catholic. Can you tell me of Catholic discussion websites that would help me learn more? Thank you.

IMO, any place where they highly regard Bishop Fulton J. Sheen and our current Pope's is not a bad place to start.

I mention Bishop Sheen specifically, because he has a series of talks for people (those deciding or recent converts) who perhaps aren't aware of the reasons why Catholics do what they do. It's called "Life is worth Living" series, and although it was recorded in the 50's or 60's, it's completely relevant to today world. The man had a great foresight then about how things would so rapidly deteriorate to our current situation. These talks simply give a Catholic reasoning on the Christ, the Trinity, the Mass, the Sacraments (all of them individually discussed), the Priesthood, our Commandments, the world, love, marriage, the human soul..etc. He has also written plenty of books out there.

You can listen to his talks (mp3) on the web here

18 If the world hate you, know ye that it hath hated me before you. 19 If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. 20 Remember my word that I said to you: The servant is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they have kept my word, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things they will do to you for my name?s sake: because they know not him that sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin: but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also. 24 If I had not done among them the works that no other man hath done, they would not have sin: but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father. 25 But that the word may be fulfilled which is written in their law: they hated me without cause.

26 But when the Paraclete cometh, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceedeth from the Father, he shall give testimony of me. 27 And you shall give testimony, because you are with me from the beginning.

I can do it if nobody wants to. I'm on the FR almost every day. The catholic bashing may get to me some day too. I try not to read it and not get involved. A lot of these freepers are drive-by posters. I think some are jealous and are on the outside looking in only wishing to enter but can't for fear of being ostracized by their community and family.

I am going to join in on the advice offered to you, because I also aspire to become Catholic.

I have been Christian all my life and left the Episcopal church after 20 years as a member. The Catholic Church is perfect for me.

"People who are in other religions are so jealous of Roman Catholics. I remember once on FR a Catholic poster explained to me that people of other religions are threatened by Catholicism because it so appealing and they are afraid that their followers will become Catholic. That is why they lash out at us."

I agree.

I especially hear Catholic bashing on shortwave radio. Those people have been brainwashed.

The Catholic religion is the religion that Jesus started.

I heard a man speak on the CATHOLIC shortwave station, EWTN, and he used to be a Baptist, and converted to Catholicism, because he realized it is the true religion.

I'm surprised that you say this. I would have to say that I find that the opposite is often true. I think that Catholic Freepers are sometimes condescending and/or hostile to non-Catholics.

Can you point out some specific instances of an anti-Catholic bias?

Hey, Walden, I see you are in Texas. Not sure where in TX you are, but TX has several Roman Catholic Parishes which are Anglican Use Parishes- The Anglican Use Parishes were Episcopalian Parishes which joined the Catholic Church corporately.

http://www.pastoralprovision.org has a list of them. Our liturgy is based on the 1928 Book of Common Prayer.

My Parish is in San Antonio. My Priest was an Episcopalian Priest, who was allowed by JPII to become a Catholic Priest.
The Parish website is:

My Priest has a great blog at:

There has been a long and often close relationship between
the Anglican and Catholic Churches. In certain situations
there remains a mutual recognition of the validity of key
doctrines, liturgies, and practices. And the Catholic
Church continues to hold the faith and moral teachings as
taught by the Apostles.

I understand that there is also an Anglican Use liturgy
within the Catholic Church, wherein the Book of Common Prayer
is used for the Mass (with minor updates). So there is no need
to lose the liturgy Anglicans may be familiar with.

Resources for those interested in the Catholic faith:

Coming Home Network

Provides fellowship, encouragement and support for Protestant
pastors and laymen who are somewhere along the journey or
have already been received into the Catholic Church.

Three posters come immediately to mind. I won't name them, because then courtesy dictates I should ping them, and I do not wish them here based on what so many other threads have become.

I think you just made my point.

Also, people in America are free to practice whatever religion or permutation thereof, that they choose. If Catholicism is indeed so appealing to people of other Christian denominations, those people are free to try to become Catholic, are they not? No one is stopping them.

And, a third point - perhaps Christianity should not be talked about as a popularity contest.

Our priest gave and outstanding homily today entitled, "Open Season on Jesus".

When it gets posted to our church website, I will send out the link.

The antiCatholism that I hear on shortwave is pretty bad, and filled with lies (not all shows, of course, but far too many).

I used to listen to the shows because they were pro-life and conservative in many ways, but one by one, I boycotted their shows.

On the other hand, Dr. Richard Land, a Southern Baptist praises Catholics on their pro-life stance on his radio show.

All pro-life Christians should stick together.
