Thank you! I also saw 1 or 2 “i can if noone else will” replies on the thread, but wasn’t sure if there were private replies as you mentioned, or if this would be a shared venture among several FReepers. :)

Okay! I'll do it.
But seriously, what does it say when nobody really wants to take the step to outright volunteer? A bunch of us saying "I'll do it if nobody else wants to..." isn't really all that encouraging.

Dear Alan:

I fear that you’re missing the point. The issue is not anti-Catholicism, it’s virulent and rampant anti-Christianity.

Our adversaries within the culture of death are not stupid. They are not going to attack Christianity head on. What they’re going to do, and are already doing, is to try to sow the seeds of discontent within the various churches of our faith. So to attack Catholics they will pursue lines of reasoning that would do a chick publication proud. To attack the LDS, they will pursue inflammatory rhetoric that is hurtful to Mormons. To attack Anglicans, they will try to exacerbate the problems the Anglican churches are already facing.

The point is, we’re not the only ones. I invite you to gaze at the forest vice the trees.

God Bless

Dear Alan:

Oh, and another point. Debate is not about the debaters, it’s about the audience. In this case, the lurkers. Just because you don’t see the immediate results of a post or an insight does not mean that it doesn’t have an impact on those reading it.

A quick example to illustrate my point. Go to the forum page and take a look at any story and the number of posts vice the number of people who have read the thread. The views are always more numerous than the posts. Often times there are 10 times more views than posts. The upshot is that more people read these threads than post them.

People are usually smarter and more perceptive than we give them credit for. Just because they don’t chime in doesn’t mean that we haven’t touched them or swayed their opinion.

Every Catholic reads the bible when they attend mass. By attending mass on Sundays for 3 years, one reads the entire bible. by attending mass daily for one year, one reads the bible. After the readings a priest, with a M.Div. degree from a real seminary, interprets the readings. and I’ll let some PROTESTants know a little secret that their pastors don’t let on: catholics and other protestant denominations use the same lectionary and proclaim the same readings and the same cycles of readings every Sunday. can you imagine that?

I’ll let some PROTESTants know a little secret

Hi Coleus,

I don't think the main stream protestants hate us Catholics as much as the fundamentalists do. The fundamentalists are the ones that are just as nasty as they can be. It is hellish trying to talk to a fundamentalist. They act like they are all spaced out in a weird cult or something. Instead of responding, they launch into a two page diatribe. They win by wearing their perceived opponent out with all of their crazy words. The other person gets tired and gives up.

I pray that those I love and know, who are Catholic, will come to know who Jesus is through his word.

What a coincidence, I pray that those I love and know, who are Protestant, will come to know who Jesus is through his word.

Sounds kind of arrogant, doesn't it?

Not when you read in context.

If you would have read the comment in regards to the posted article it makes sense.

So you think your comment to me was done in humility? Take a look in the mirror when accusing someone of arrogance.

By the way, I pray for my protestant friends who don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus. I actually pray for anyone the Holy Spirit leads me to prayer for that doesn’t know who Jesus Christ truly is.

So if you miss a Sunday, do you have to wait another 2 years to read the part of the bible that you missed?

Pop Quiz....what did you preist “read” to you last week. Come on....come on....I know you were listening......weren’t you?

The reason I asked this question you responded to, was because I personally know (friends and family) who have been in the church their entire lives and they don’t know anything about the bible. They don’t even really know why they called themeselves Christians. Many times they just say that because they have always gone to church, born into a Catholic family, and that is why they are Catholic. It wasn’t by choice or knowledge. I know this is not true of only Catholics, it is true of all denominations. I just find this more prevalent in my friends and family who are of that denomination. Why? Just curiois? Honestly, that is why I asked the question.

I just think that if you are going to call yourself a Christian, and let it define who you are, then you should know something about the God you follow. Don’t you?

I would encourage you to start reading the bible more, if you are a Christian.

Sounds good. Just remember to drink eight glasses of water, get 30 to 60 minutes of exercise, keep contact with friends, pursue a healthy hobby, advance your career, make time for yourself and of course... floss!

Don't be so sure it's the Holy Spirit. It may be your own ego. Need I point out the obvious to you that you are posting on a thread concerning the Knights of Columbus?

Personally, I think you come off as a pompous ass.

Go ahead and pray for me if you want. And say one for yourself as well.

Is this battle of the words? What is your point?
I think you are someone who just wants to pick a fight with posters.

You must need friends. Are you lonely? If so, read your bible, get a friend in Jesus. He promised to never leave you or forsake you.

Your mean comments directed towards me started because I said I pray for my friends and family who don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and you found that arrogant. Is it your guilty conscience that is eating at you, so you needed someone to pick on? I can take it, if it makes you feel better.

Where does it say only those claiming to be Knights of Columbus can post on here? I’m not smart enough to figure that one out. There, does that make you feel better?

You must not believe in the power of the Holy Spirit or you wouldn’t have made such a juvenile comment? I will pray for you as you have suggested.

Can you define "fundamentalist?" This term gets thrown around a lot, but it seems to mean different things to different people. I am a Reformed Protestant, and I will sometimes accept the label "fundamentalist" and other times reject it depending on the context of the conversation and what the term is being used to describe.
