Christmas tour ban

City Manager Lannie Corbin did the right thing when he told the Christmas Lady to stop giving tours of her home, City Council members said earlier this week.

Debbie Lewis, aka the Christmas Lady, has been decorating her home and giving tours for the past five years. More than 5,000 people visited her home on Duncan Drive during the Christmas season last year, Corbin said. Neighbors complained about traffic and congestion, he said.

Meetings and talk of moving the Christmas display to somewhere out of a residential area did not get far, Corbin said. He then sent a letter to Lewis telling her that she could not host the display and tours any longer.

This depends entirely on the amount of space in that neighborhood. If there's so much space (or enough space) to live in that neighborhood and conduct this well-attended event, then this is some kind of prejudicial action rearing its ugly head.

If there is not enough room for that many cars and people in their neighborhood, then it is a fair complaint.

Five thousand people tromping through the neighborhood is way too much.

It's all very nice and cozy and inappropriate in a congested neighborhood.
