Catholic Caucus: Quiz - Do you Know Your Baltimore Catechism?
Go To Quiz ^ | 3/18/07 | Leticia Velasquez

So few Catholics today know the most basic points of the Catholic faith. They attend CCD for years, and can't give a clear reason for being a Catholic. Those of us who have learned our faith well, have studied the best source, the Baltimore Catechism. We are the traditional Catholics.

Do you remember your catechism? Are you able to recall those fundamental, immutable tenets of the Faith? Could you defend the Church if you had to in a discussion? Before you fail when it really matters, take this quiz, and see how well versed you are in the Faith. See if you are a traditional Catholic.

I don't know if I would call myself a traditional Catholic, as much as a serious one, but any Catholic who knows his or her faith ought to be able to score well on this quiz. Being a quiz junkie, I had to take it, and also being a quiz sharing junkie, I had to pass it on so that others like me could take it too. How about you?

99% - that was easy. I'm actually an Anglican (Peter Akinola type, not Frank Griswold type).

Whoohooo!!!!!! Twelve years of Seton Home Study (and a hardcore CCD program), baby I had those books memorized! The first communion one, the pink one and the grey one and then the Baltimore Catechism three.

100% Traditional Catholic.

Although I did hesitate for a moment to consider John, Paul, George and Ringo.

89% Catholic.

I still remember some of the teachings before I gave up Catholicism for Lent a few years ago.

They think I'm a 100% Traditional Catholic ...

How in the heck can they rate you a 99% anything, based on a 20 question quiz? Somebody needs to revisit his study of statistics.

many of the options were partially correct. So, perhaps you get 5 points for every correct answer, and four points for some partially correct answers, three points for others. That way, you could actually acheive 99 points out of 100.

no doubt partial credit for knowing most of the answer. I think I lost my 1 percent on the confirmation question, but it didn't give me a way to check my answers...

I knew an orthodox gentleman, back about 1990, who was trying to find something useful to help some catechist, and he chose the Baltimore catechism as a supplement because of so much of it that is right even from an Orthodox point of view. Or so he told me. He also at one time ran a realty business called Scrooge and Marley.

That old Catechism is spot on for Orthodoxy in virtually all respects! For that reason it should be pretty easy for an Orthodox Christian to score very high on the quiz...and we are pretty traditional after all! :)

By the way, 6 years of the Sisters of Mercy and being drilled on the Baltimore Catechism by my father, of blessed memory, virtually every night didn't hurt my score. I never got anything below an A in Religion (which was a good thing for me 'cause if I had, my life wouldn't have been worth living)!

That's what he said too!

And so that's why you are so knowledgeable about certain things!

"And so that's why you are so knowledgeable about certain things!"

Not only did I learn the catechism in a Pre-Vatican II Catholic School, I was an altar boy in both churches too! It was, as they say, a very ecumenical time! :)

I'm Presbyterian, but got a 100%.

It doesn't screen for Protestantism, apparently.
