Exodus 3

1 Meanwhile Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. Leading the flock across the desert, he came to Horeb, the mountain of God.

2 There an angel of the LORD appeared to him in fire flaming out of a bush. As he looked on, he was surprised to see that the bush, though on fire, was not consumed. 3 So Moses decided, "I must go over to look at this remarkable sight, and see why the bush is not burned." 4When the LORD saw him coming over to look at it more closely, God called out to him from the bush, "Moses! Moses!" He answered, "Here I am."

Hello Freepers.

I have something I would like to share with you and those with whom you might like to share it.

I am a Catholic. For a while I have had a statue of Mother Mary in the yard.

I have always wanted to make the presence of this statue more special.

What I came up with was using solar powered lights.

I bought the solar powered lights and I took a permanent red marker and colored the lens.

My solar powered light is now like a Church votive light. Just like the candles and lights one sees in Catholic churches. Just like in special places in churches where one kneels and prays.

One can do this very easily. I do not know if these are for sale as such. They should be so if you use my idea to make money send a royalty check.

Those of you with relatives in the cemetary and especially those with veterans this is a way to have a perpetual light for them. An eternal flame if you will. Without worrying about candles. One can have this flameless light in the house for whatever one wants illuminated such as a stute or a framed picture of a loved one. Young people could have a positive and creative moment with thier elders to add that special something to a statue in the yard or an indoor shrine.

They come in many shapes and sizes and I am sure you can find one with a shape that lends itself to dignity and solemnity.

I think that Jewish people could use blue and clear for the Isreali flag.

I do not know much about Protestant churches so I would not know if such an idea is applicable.

I suppose a person could also do this for sports teams or other causes...please no jokes about low budget houses of ill repute. And yes, mine might look a little like a portable running light for a canoe, but I like it. There are many shapes to choose from. Enjoy.

I had tried to communicate through the Pilot, A Catholic newspaper, but they do not seem to return phone calls.

I hope you read this message. I hope that it takes on a life of it's own.

I believe that faith continually creates and changes the world if we rise to the promptings that we receive as individuals.

Vince ab bonum malum. (conquer evil by doing good)

If someone has a way to post a picture here, I will send them a picture that I took today to show people.

Better Late then Never. I demonstrated how to make these at a Church group tonight. I wasn't a guest speaker or anything I just wanted to show people. I did not expect to see how happy people were to see this. I was moved. I have given many of these out since I first posted. The people, tonight, were very glad to see how to make thier own. By the end of the night I knew that they would make them. That they might have them in a place in thier back yards. A place for quiet contemplation on a nice summer's evening. They really help bring a sense of Catholic Spirituality. One Priest I know takes his light inside at night, I think, for his Office reading. One of the Sisters of St. Paul put one on the grave of her brother. Even from inside the house to look out in the yard, at night, winter or summer and see these alit, helping to keep the faith is good. I hope they add an awareness of God to your home. Or that they might help with focus in prayer life. If you do not have a yard, you can put them in a window to charge up and bring a glow to a room. I am going to make some in blue for Mother Mary's Statue. Experiment. One can use masking tape to mask off a Cross and come back with different colors for effect. One could also use a variety of colors to make a patchwork stained glass look. As I finished the talk, I pointed to the real votives in the Church and said "Now you can have that in your own yards and homes". I was thanked.

This is very interesting. Blue is “Mary’s color” so if for some reason one did not particularly like red, maybe due to the color scheme of house or garden, your lights would also look nice in blue to enhance a Marian statue.
