TRUST GOD
Howard Childers

Posted on 03/13/2007 10:50:54 AM PDT by blue-duncan

This was recently sent by a friend (not the author) going through a crises in his life. Something to think about.

The Christian’ s most difficult task is not so much to trust God for Eternal Salvation, but to trust Him during daily crisis points:

When the earth around you is without form and void, and darkness covers the face of the deep - Trust God.
When the Canaanites want to make a deal - Trust God
When Goliath is, six feet taller than you - Trust God.
When everybody else has gone down the street to worship Baal, and you’re the only prophet God’s got left on the block - Trust God.
When you can hear the Chaldeans lining up their horses and chariots, and see their spear tips’ reflection in the sunlight – Trust God.
When Sennacherib is battering down your door - Trust God.
When your captors ask you to sing the Lord’s Song in their strange land - Trust God.
When Nebuchadnezzar’ a furnace blows hot in your face Trust God
When your sacred alter lies broken and scattered - Trust God.
When your fig trees and vines and orchards and fields and stalls and womb lie barren - Trust God
When God is as silent as Bethlehem’s star - Trust God
When Rachel weeps for her dead babies - Trust God.
When Herodias wants your head on a platter - Trust God.
When the religious establishment looks for a way to silence you because you question its motives, its hermeneutics, and its institutions - Trust God.
When your friends leave you behind in the garden and run for their lives - Trust God
When you feel the whip, the spit, the thorns, and the nails - Trust God.
When you think even God has abandoned you - Trust God.
When everything you ever counted on in life is either nailed down or has a stone rolled in front of it - Trust God.
When everyone else gives up and goes fishing - Trust God.
When they throw you out of their synagogues, and drag you before kings and magistrates and emperors - Trust God.
When it’s midnight, and all you’ve got is a jail cell, and a hymn book, and one other Christian to sing along with - Trust God.

When you try to pray, and you spit cotton;
When there are no words left, only pain and emptiness;
When you wait for some sure word from the Lord;
but all you hear is the beating of your own heart - Trust God.

When the earth beneath you begins to crumble, and the foundations begin to heave, and the beams above you begin to crack;
When you see blood and fire and thick smoke;
When the sun is darkened and the moon turns the color of blood - Trust God

One Last Word:

It’s very important that you trust Him when things seem to be going well, when things look good, when you think you’ve got it made, when you’re relaxed:
Trust Him especially when King David asks you to come closer so he can read what’s written on your beach towel;
When Potiphar‘s wife offers you tea on the veranda;
When the king likes you so much he wants to build you a guest house in the east wing of his house so you can be his live-in prophet;
When Satan offers to serve as your real estate agent and promises you some deals you can’t refuse;
When your friends want to build a booth in your honor; When someone offers you a scepter and crown;
When someone tells you how lucky your mother is to have given birth to you and nursed you;
When the crowds suggest that “someone of your status and calling would look better seated on a white charger, instead of that comical donkey;
When Judas opens his arms to you, and puckers up –

In all these moments and the moments between them - Trust God.

Trust Him more than you trust anyone or anything else.
Trust Him more than you trust yourself, your learning, your worldly possessions,
your professional status, your theological persuasions,
your particular brand of orthodoxy, your country, or your heart beat.
Trust Him because you were created to Trust Him;
Because your bones want to Trust Him;
Because He has earned the right to your trust;
Because He has entrusted so much to you;
Because He’s the only thing in this world or the next worth trusting;
Because He raised Jesus and can raise you any old day.

Then, one of these days, soon, because you have trusted, you won’t need to trust any more. The Banquet will be seated and the Celebration begun. On that day you will hear, from His own lips, just how much, all these years, He has always trusted …… you.

When God is as silent as Bethlehem’s star - Trust God

Even then.

Thanks for the heads up.
I intend to trust my father; my father's name is God.
Can't discribe my thoughts; I'll just say after reading it I was reminded to be greatful that God expresses himself through others. The phrase "trust & obey" now seems redundant to me; simply put: trust will result in obedience

When your sacred alter lies broken and scattered - Trust God.

When everything you worked for and thought was so-o-o-o important turns to dust, you learn what it means to cling.
