I don't see much TV or hear much talk radio, as most of it isn't suitable for the children. The clip of the exchange with Fr. E. was the first time I'd heard Hannity in a long while. As someone said a few posts above, he reasons like a liberal!
I listened to a nice CD of Gregorian Chant on the way home today. And arrived home much calmer. (I say my Rosary on the way into work, once I drop the kids off at school it's just about 1/2 hour from there to work if the traffic isn't impossible.)
We usually listen to bluegrass. Sometimes I'll get so involved in the fiddle or mandolin line that I'll drive right by where I'm going :-).
We also have the New Testament on CD ("The Bible Experience," new recording that came out last year) and we've been having a great time with it. It's full of personality. Our favorite so far (we've been listening to parts of Gospels and letters at random) is St. Peter, who sounds like a tobacca farmer frm over t'Marshvlle.
"And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto."
Hannity ought to go on private retreat for a week with Fr John Corapi.
Spiritual bootcamp for Sean will benefit both him and his listeners.
Our crime of is that we expect a professing Catholic (liberal, conservative, or any other kind) not to deny his faith in a public forum, and not to publicly excoriate a Catholic clergyman who calls him on his hypocrisy.
Guilty as charged.
Noted.
I posted the other night when I saw the show that Hannity "really looked like a chump, sounded exactly like a cornered liberal and lost a great deal of respect from me."
I'm glad Father saw him the same way.
"But if Sean Hannity's patriotism and conservatism are under question by the Catholic Church"
The Church could care less about Hannity's patriotism.
Let's say that after all these years of Hannity proclaiming his conservatism...we find out he really is pro tax increases, pro socialized medicine, pro gun control, pro-choice (oh yeah, he IS pro-choice!) ....well, conservative leaders may question his conservatism and rightly so.
And so it is with the Church.
Catholics who support abortion and artificial birth control are not catholic no matter what they call themselves.
It's like calling yourself a Buddhist but you don't believe in meditation.
It's like calling yourself a scientologist but you think L. Ron Hubbard was whacked.
This priest is only pointing out Sean's cognitive dissonance.
"The Catholic Church is guilty of breaching the peace? Wow!!! Tell us more. What happened? Have them damn Catholics been rioting again?
Surely you mean Islam, yes??"
dang!!
did I miss the catholic night of outrage again?
Did anyone burn Hannity's car?
"Sean Hannity doesn't seem to be a stupid man, in general"
I listened to him for awhile and suspected he might not be all that bright.
The more I listened the more convinced I became -especially when he started shouting people down whenever he felt challenged.
This latest incident just seals the deal for me - yes, Hannity is stupid.
Note to self...DO NOT invite a priest onto own show where I proclaim my catholicism WITHOUT reading up on the Church's position on issues that will be discussed!
The Catholic night of outrage was a bit of a disappointment. You were supposed to stop by the 7-11 and pick up a couple of gallons of kerosene, remember?
As it is, we had to settle for draping a rosary around the hood ornament and sticking a prayer card to St. Jude under the windshield wiper. ;-)
Sean wears his faith on his sleeve. He openly and often professes to be Catholic.
But you are all free to continue to deride any and all Catholics whom you deem unworthy of belonging to your particular religious sect.
It's not a matter of whom we deem unworthy of belonging to for our "particular religious sect", (the Roman Catholic Church is a worldwide, 2000 year old Christian Church). All we are asking is for people who publicly profess to be Catholic to not misrepresent or attack the Church.
Now the stoning of the infidel may continue.....
You don't seem to understand basic logic and reason. If Sean were not a self professed Catholic, (in your words an "infidel"), we would merely counter his arguments. It is his misrepresentation of the teachings of the Church while professing to be not only a member but an authority on the Church to which we take exception.
There is one more thing which I wish to address, and that is your characterization of the Catholic Church as a sect and a cult, as well as your implied equation of us with Islam ("stoning the infidels".) That kind of liberal slander is unworthy of this forum. It makes me wonder if we are next to be called Nazis or fascists or some other liberal label.
Ahhh...rosary draping and armed with holy cards - that oughta strike fear in everyone's hearts!
Be sure to alert me for the next evening of mad mayhem!
"That kind of slander is unworthy of this forum".
I have been realizing that for quite some time now.
I hope it's not just you and me who have that perception.

I just posted my reply without viewing yours first. You have rendered the argument to its basic elements, and I think it bears repeating:

How about a brutal recitation of the Stations of the Cross to smite the blasphemers.
Take that, infidels!
I have been, on occasion, guilty of a little too much rough and tumble in discussing issues of the day, but reasoned discourse tinged with humor is a much better approach.
Stoning of infidels ... really. Since this is something Catholics don't do, I gather this is merely an extension of your Catholic bashing from previous posting.
