It was Jacob (James) the firstborn son of Mary by Joseph after Jesus was born.
THERE IS NOT ONE SINGLE VERSE saying that James is the Blessed Virgin Mary's son or even that he was Joseph's son.
I'm a Protestant, and I say God bless the Pope and the Catholic Church, two of His forces for good in this world.
Excellent references! You definitely know your Bible!
But when a Catholic looks into the Bible for this mystery ritual Mass they will not find it.
Oh really?
51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. 52 If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give, is my flesh, for the life of the world. 53 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying: How can this man give us his flesh to eat? 54 Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you. 55 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day.
(John 6: 51-55)
So, who is lying, is it our Lord Jesus Christ or the author?
Glad you can laugh. I got quite irritated. It was so full of lies and had a "Protestant caucus" tag on it!
LOL!
**When a Catholic looks in the Bible they will not find purgatory.**
Oh, yes, purgatory references are in the Bible! I will post them later. This write needs our prayers, doesn't he?
Lie ... Catholics don't believe that.
They then learn the Catholic church took up the name "Catholic" from Latin which means "universal."
Error ... it's from Greek.
Christianity existed 295 years before the Catholic church was founded.
Error. This rests on the false notion that the Catholic Church was founded by Constantine in 325. Yet Ignatius of Antioch describes himself as the "bishop of the Catholic Church in Syria" in 107 AD. Go figure.
It is the priest recrucifying Jesus in the emblems of the Eucharist and the Cup. Where in the Bible are we to think that observing the Lord's Communion or Passover memorial we are recrucifying Jesus on the Cross? It is not there! The Catholic who learns this discovers also that the daily multiple Mass observance to recrucify the Lord Jesus is not in the Bible.
Lie ... Catholics don't believe the Mass "recrucifies" or "resacrifices" Jesus, or anyone else.
There are, of course, many other lies and errors in this post.
But, you know, guys like this "Pastor" don't believe "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor" applies to them, if Catholics are involved.
You will notice with Protestants that when they agree with something that Church fathers have agreed upon since the beginning(the Trinity, etc.) the exact phrase does not need to be in the Bible; however, if they don't agree with something, it needs to be explicitely spelled out and the exact term used.
**I'm a Protestant, and I say God bless the Pope and the Catholic Church, two of His forces for good in this world.**
Thank you and God bless you.
**This write needs our prayers, doesn't he?**
Shoud have been:
This writer needs our prayers, doesn't he?
There is a good indication here.....that Ignatius thought he was.
There are ample scriptures that do show that The Lord had half siblings....and you know this as well as everyone else. The fact that it flies in the face of your theology..... is another story.
When I saw the posting yesterday I was convinced it would die a rapid death. It is amateurish, full of distortions, falsehoods, and half-truths. Not worthy of serious discussion. (This coming from, as you know, a very solid ex.) :-)
I am surprised it is still going today.
Interesting.
Then I suspect you do not belong to a recognized religion?
Who wrote your Bible?
Do you believe in the Triune Godhead?
What Ignatius THOUGHT and what was true are not the same and even his thoughts do not suggest that James was the son of the Blessed Mother. Could he not have been our Lord's cousin and been similar in appearance?
Most of the discussion is frivolous, rather than serious. That's why the thread is continuing :-).
"as if he were a twin-brother of the same womb"
Do you seriously want to claim that James was Jesus' twin brother?
Ignatius is using simile here ... "as if".
Besides, where do you get off quoting Ignatius as authoritative? Are you ready to accept the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist (as Ignatius did) and submit yourself to the authority of the Catholic bishop (as Ignatius insists you must)?
Don't pick and choose.
There are ample scriptures that do show that The Lord had half siblings
And one that makes it absolutely impossible. On the Cross, Jesus gives Mary to John as his mother. The Gospel says John took her eis ta idia, "to his own [people]".
If Jesus had younger blood brothers who were children of Mary, he just committed a sin by exempting them from fulfilling the mitzvot "Honor thy father and thy mother."
You pick: Mary had other children and Jesus committed a sin almost as his last act on earth ... or Luther, Calvin, Zwingli, Jerome, and the Pope got it right.
We need frivolity. In appropriate quantities, of course.
As to WHO wrote what I believe?
You won't like this either ... .
2Tim.3:16 [16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That's all any Christian needs. Again, why many Catholics will claim to be Christians, but NO Christian will claim to be a Catholic. Catholic teachings have created a different "religion" that is not in agreement with the Bible. I could NEVER be a Catholic - I know better - God's Word has cleared up ANY chance of making the mistake of turning to Catholicism and its false teachings.
Believe whatever you wish at your own eternal peril ... .
