Gibberish!!!
"In response to mounting demand, however, Pius finally permitted rigorous scientific examination of the bones in 1956. It emerged that the remains were actually bones of three different people, along with scores of animals. Of the humans, two were men in their 50s, and one was a woman in her 70s. Clearly, these were not the fishermans bones." http://www.catholicdigest.org/stories/200105052a.html
[Stay tuned for a report on that second set of bones]
"As this disappointment unfolded, another scholar, Margherita Guarducci, worked to decipher some strange graffiti found on a necropolis wall. One day in 1952, she inquired about a nearby cavity, the one previously emptied by Kaas. Segoni, still laboring away on the project, led her to the bones hed placed in a storeroom years before. She made nothing of them, simply recommending that the specialists take a look.
"A decade later, those bones were identified as those of a man 5 feet 7 inches tall, of heavy build, age 60 to 70. The hollow of the bones contained soil, suggesting they had lain in a bare earth grave. Stains suggested the bones had been wrapped in a purplish, gold-threaded cloth.
"In the meantime, Guarducci pieced together a partial inscription by the cavity as Petros Eni, which in ancient Greek could mean Peter is within. The bones gathered from the cavity by Kaas, she concluded, must be those of Peter moved out of the tomb 1,800 years ago, perhaps during a persecution.
"Guarducci presented her theory to Paul VI in 1964. After additional tests, the pope was convinced, despite dissent from three of the original four archaeologists. Paul announced that the bones of Peter had been identified in a manner which we believe convincing. On June 27, 1968, Paul reinterred them, stored in 19 Plexiglas cases, in Peters tomb." http://www.catholicdigest.org/stories/200105052a.html
Hhmmm --- a shorter and younger version of Simon Peter interred there under the Vatican. And of course, only one out of the four archeologists agreed, but what does that matter when identifying those infallible bones ex cathedrally.
Well....when you're runnin' an outfit where relics are real important (why, who knows)....ya do what ya gotta do!
I guess it has something to do with keeping the folks in line.....superstition or tradition? I have no idea why relics are so important to these folks. Maybe someone can enlighten me.
**I'll switch to Catholicism just to rile some of you guys out there**
You're welcome to come aboard. The Catholic Church is made up of all kinds of sinners......the last I checked. (Unless you are already a saint!)
**Not going to make much progress here.**
Very true, almost like talking to a stone wall. (Reminds me of a wall I saw at Auschwitz.)
**nor masses,**
All the Gospels in the telling of the Passion and death of Jesus Christ have the main part of the Mass, the consecration, in them. Word for word.
"This is my Body. Take and eat."
This is my Blood. Take and drink."
"Do this in remembrance of me."
Those same words are repated at every Mass.
Have you ever looked at a Sacramentary (the book the priest reads from that has all the prayers for the Mass? Almost all the prayers are from Scripture.
If you lived close to me I would take you to a Catholic Church and show you one of these books myself. Or if you want to investigate on your own, stop in at a Catholic Church and ask the sacristan or the priest if you could talk with him and have a look at the Sacramentary.
**nor prayers to saints, nor purgatory, nor indulgences,**
We have covered all of these in previous posts. They are in the Bible -- just not in those precise words. Do you want me to post the Scripture verses again?
Hey, you read the Gospel of Luke, chapter 1, don't you?
Elizabeth.
So you see the all of the Hail Mary part is from Scripture and I know that the first line of the second part is from the same passage. I'm sure the rest is in Scripture, I just can't pull it off my floppy disk (brain) right now. Blessings! Aren't you glad you asked?
**Holy Water**
"Unless a man is born again of water and the spirit" -- sure sounds like holy water to me.
How about the "Living water" when Jesus spoke with the Samaritan woman -- sounds like holy water to me!
Come one, Uncle Chip, I think you might be trying to be difficult here.
**Peter's episcopacy **
We've already talked about Christ giving the keys of the kingdom to Peter and giving him to power to loose and bind sins on earth previously in this thread.
**many rituals and doctrines**
If you can be more specific here, maybe I can enlighten your opinions.
**"You may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify."**
Are you aware that the apostles were Jews and observed the Sabbath?
Then to celebrate and oboserve their belief in Christ they got together on Sunday and blessed the bread and wine as Christ had instructed them to do in remembrance of him. Thus, the celebration of Sundays began with the Apostles.
Are you a Seventh-Day Adventist or a adherer of Judaism?
Or are you a Protestant and go to church on Sunday?
OK, so he is a heretic. Let's dismiss him. I would rather talk about true faith, wouldn't you?
**scriptures enforce the Sabbath and Rome changed it**
Rome didn't change it the APOSTLES did! Please read the previous post to you!
Thanks for that information on the Councils of Carthage. Someone asked me that question today and I said I would find out! Wow!
Are you aware that the Sabbath will be kept in the Millenia and beyond? Are you aware that any Apostle or Disciple who espoused breaking God's Law would have been stoned or disfellowshipped? Are you aware that Jesus went to great lengths to show His follows how to keep the Sabbath? Are you aware that the Pharisees and Saducces were trying to kill Jesus by getting him to heal on the Sabbath and using the Law (Deuteronomy 13:1-5)?
I'm afraid that the position Protestantism is revisionist. I searched that Bible for justification for the keeping of Study and came up woefully short. If you could provide me with a scripture or two that I missed that repeals the Sabbath, or any of God's Laws, I would appreciate it.
preview is my friend, preview is my friend, preview is my friend...
Now, the literal translation: [Luke 1:41-42] And it came to pass, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe did leap in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and spake out with a loud voice, and said, 'Blessed [art] thou among women, and blessed [is] the fruit of thy womb.
This is how you folks end up making a goddess out of her, by embellishing what the scriptures actually say. She is referred to as blessed....not "most" blessed. She was a very ordinary, young Jewish girl. Anything other than that....our Saviour would have had an unfair advantage at human existence....and his sacrifice would therefore be meaningless.
