Right there the Scripture says Jesus spoke to Peter! I know you see it!
**15] When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter,**
What in the world does this have to do with the price of cheese? I never said otherwise.

Exactly what are you talking about? Chapter and Verse please.
When he said that he would never deny Christ? I don't think that was a lie. I think he fully intended not to deny Christ.
What happened when the cock crowed the second time, what did Peter do?
"He went out and wept bitterly"
Matthew 26:
[69] Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. And a maid came up to him, and said, "You also were with Jesus the Galilean."
[70] But he denied it before them all, saying, "I do not know what you mean."
[71] And when he went out to the porch, another maid saw him, and she said to the bystanders, "This man was with Jesus of Nazareth."
[72] And again he denied it with an oath, "I do not know the man."
[73] After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, "Certainly you are also one of them, for your accent betrays you."
[74] Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, "I do not know the man." And immediately the cock crowed.
[75] And Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, "Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times." And he went out and wept bitterly.
A lie is a lie no matter his good intentions. Remember, he swore that he's never forsake Jesus.

What do you think of Brownback? He is a convert to Catholicism. But he went soft on the war in Iraq. Too bad.

James was NOT the brother of Jesus, but the son of Zebedee.
Mary was a perpetual virgin. Have we been through this before?

You're saying that you can't lose a gift? Sorry - if that's a serious question, we have no common ground for discussion. You have kids??? Or you used to??? What, they were unruly and you put them up for adoption??? Or did you chastize them and keep on teaching and rearing??? Our FATHER in Heaven does the same thing with his children...He didn't adopt us and then give us back to the adoption agency if we make some mistakes along the way...
Those saved by faith that Christ paid the full price for our redemption are filled with the Holy spirit...We have gone thru a Spiritual circumcision where our bodies are no longer connect to our soul...We had an 'operation'...
We are in God and God IS in us...24/7...We will not be separated from Christ...Can't be...
When this body dies, my soul is going up...And when Jesus shows up, my body will be lifted up, regardless of what state it's in and will be changed into whatever glorios body Jesus' human flesh turned into before He took residence in Heaven...
Praise God...

**I am very Marian focused. **
The bible sure isn't.
- Sir, the upper statement was a "personal aside to a friend," and your smarmy intrusion was rude.
- This thread, begun by a Protestant, is an embarrassment to any thinking Protestant. It a screed of the worst type. Still, Catholics and Protestants have managed to have a discourse that is largely civil.
- John 2:5 reads "His mother said to the servants, 'Do whatever he tells you.'"
- Sadly, as my own mother is long dead, and as the Mother of God is in heaven, I have decided to take her Scriptural advice assiduously. That means, I intend to live my life in such a manner that I will "Do whatever He tells me."
- This is precisely what she, Mary, tells the stewards, and it is superb advice. She was the one who was there at His conception, His birth, the initiation of His public ministry (described in this Chapter) and at His death. She was also present to see Him in His resurrected state.
If you feel this does not fulfill your lawyerly reading of the Bible, so be it. My Church, begun in 33 AD, feels otherwise, and as she is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, I'll defer to Her (the Church) and to her (Mary) with regards to interpreting what Jesus Christ wills of each of us. In short, I bow to the Authority of the Catholic Church and her (Mary's) advice.
You can now find another dungeon to master.

You MUST rightly divide the word of truth...Forget the catechism...Get into the bible and find out for yourself... Time for a history lesson:
FACT: The printing press was not invented until the mid-fifteenth century. Prior to this, all Bibles had to be transcribed by hand, this was an incredibly time consuming process and as a result Bibles were extremely expensive and far beyond the reach of the average person. Keep in mind in these days, most peasants actually rented farmland from noblemen and their was no available credit. It was absolutely impossible for them to purchase a Bible.
FACT: Because books were so rare, very few people knew how to read and write and schools were really only for the wealthy because the poor needed everyone working. Any learning by the poor was generally confined to math for use in trade/bartering. So, even if the average person came across a Bible, they would be unable to read it.
So, please explain to us WHY God would construct a plan of Salvation knowing that it would be impossible for all except the most wealthy to follow for at least fifteen centuries. Do you believe that God is that cruel and mocking?
Not only did "sola scriptura" not exist prior to Luther, IT WAS TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE.

Catholic Caucus: Daily Mass Readings, 03-07-07 Highlighting mine -- John and James are the sons of Zebedde, not the direct brothers of Jesus. Brothers in faith, yes, but these Sons of Thunder are not related to Jesus directly. Where have you gotten your false information? Makes me feel sad.
Mt 20:17-28
As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem,
he took the Twelve disciples aside by themselves,
and said to them on the way,
Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem,
and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests
and the scribes,
and they will condemn him to death,
and hand him over to the Gentiles
to be mocked and scourged and crucified,
and he will be raised on the third day.
Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee approached Jesus with her sons
and did him homage, wishing to ask him for something.
He said to her, What do you wish?
She answered him,
Command that these two sons of mine sit,
one at your right and the other at your left, in your kingdom.
Jesus said in reply,
You do not know what you are asking.
Can you drink the chalice that I am going to drink?
They said to him, We can.
He replied,
My chalice you will indeed drink,
but to sit at my right and at my left,
this is not mine to give
but is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.
When the ten heard this,
they became indignant at the two brothers.
But Jesus summoned them and said,
You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them,
and the great ones make their authority over them felt.
But it shall not be so among you.
Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant;
whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave.
Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve
and to give his life as a ransom for many.

**Aquinas would have me put to death.**
Is there a message there that we are supposed to get?
Love one another as Christ loved the Church! == I think that's what Aquinas believed.
Was the Aquinas quote I posted a lie? By the standards of the RCC I am a heretic and Aquinas thought I should be put to death.

**The bible sure isn't.**
The Bible IS focused on the history of the Israelites -- Old Covenant in the Old Testament
As well as the New Covenant (Jesus Christ) brought through the fulfillment of the older promised in the OT.
You would be surprise how many times the Mother of God, Mary, IS mentioned in both books. She is the fulfillment of quite a few prophecies in the Old Testament. But you may have never looked at Mary, the Mother of Jesus in this way before.

I agree. I welcome disagreement between religions (amongst FRiends), but this is so much different than a decent thread. I just can't even touch it.
To: mockingbyrd
Dude, you're the one who insists that the number of Catholics who have read the CCC is "close to none". I tell you that that is not the case in my own experience and clearly is NOT your experience from the posters here at FR.
Golly, I made the mistake of missing the fact your personal experience represented the entire universe of Catholics.

**...Would be an impossiblility for an unsaved person to be a member of the church Jesus founded...** Absolutely, yes, who was the first person into paradise after Christ? The good thief who was a sinner, but repented right there on the cross with Jesus.
Now we're gettin' somewhere...That's why the Catholic church, nor the Methodist church are the churches Christ founded...There are un-saved folks in those churches...
The saved people from those churches are the church Jesus founded...
Sinners are added to HIS church as they are saved...
The question now is:
Act 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
And the answer:
Act 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
