But even in Scripture Purgatory is compared to getting out of prison. Maybe the first island was an OK reference. Prison is a place of redemption of paying for one's sins. Isn't Purgatory similar?

Although I agree there is not much HOPE in prison. Ellis Island is a better choice there.

**Aquinas would have me put to death.**

Is there a message there that we are supposed to get?

Love one another as Christ loved the Church! == I think that's what Aquinas believed.

**I've seen signs like this out in the hinterland. Wonder who established their canon though?**

Or exactly what their Creed says???

Those scriptures do not point to the doctrine of purgatory. This has been back and forth….yes it …no it isn’t…..not going anywhere.

I maintain that those who hold to the belief in purgatory cannot be saved, for their faith is not in the grace of God through the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. You can do what you choose with that truth. Please know I am not trying to insult you but it is important to speak the truth. I think it is sad that so many catholics are seeking God and have been taken down a religious road of falsehoods rather than the Way of Christ. I pray that all those who are seeking God will find Him.

Christ gave us HIS mother while he still hung on the Cross. Tou've read it; why don't you believe it?

Propaganda you got from someone who disliked Catholics. Get yourself educated in Catholicity and the correct interpretation of the Bible, please. Not YOPIOS!

Jesus did say she was being taken away from her children but that John was to look after her as his own mother and she was to consider John as a son. Jesus cannot do that (the underlined part) without sinning.

Proof of that is?

**He is to safeguard the unity of the brethern, whom otherwise Satan would scatter {the Church} like chaff,

And Satan could do it. Think about he quoted Scripture to Christ during the Temptation in the desert. Satan is no dummy.

And the more educated we are in our Church doctrine, the more Satan is there to tempt us!

**I am very Marian focused. **

Me too, and I didn't realize it until I started posting on FR and my posts would be littered with people disdaining for Blessed Virgin Mary. I would come out like Joan of Arc and not listen much, I'm afraid.

If the price is paid for as we both agree, how can there be any stain left from sin? It is done away with. My debt is nailed to the cross. I don't have it against me any more. V:14

V:10 and in Him you have been made complete. Are we not made complete in Him because we still sin, then His death was not good enough to do as He claimed.

V:8 warns us of what happens when we put our faith in "tradition of men" instead of Him alone. This what the RCC tradition is.

Col 2:6 Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, Col 2:7 having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. Col 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. Col 2:9 For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, Col 2:10 and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority; Col 2:11 and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ; Col 2:12 having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. Col 2:13 When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, Col 2:14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

The Pope replacing Jesus as head of church..

When you say that, I don't know how to take you seriously. It just doesn't answer to anything the Church says about herself or to what I hear priests say. It's another instance of a charge which passes me right by. I know you addressed it at the Church, but you might as well say the church insists that everyone wear polka-dotted neckties.

Jesus has appointed no man as the head of His church. He said He is the head...we are His body. It was wise among other things for He knew what man would do with such power.

The blood of Christ has paid for all my sins.

Rom 8:12 So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh-- Rom 8:13 for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. Rom 8:14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Rom 8:15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!" Rom 8:16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,

When Jesus saw his mother 11 and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son."
27
Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother." And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

And the footnote that goes with it:

11 [26-27] This scene has been interpreted literally, of Jesus' concern for his mother; and symbolically, e.g., in the light of the Cana story in John 2 (the presence of the mother of Jesus, the address woman, and the mention of the hour) and of the upper room in John 13 (the presence of the beloved disciple; the hour). Now that the hour has come (John 19:28), Mary (a symbol of the church?) is given a role as the mother of Christians (personified by the beloved disciple); or, as a representative of those seeking salvation, she is supported by the disciple who interprets Jesus' revelation; or Jewish and Gentile Christianity (or Israel and the Christian community) are reconciled.
