Why do you even wonder about this? With all the other "Goofy" stuff that emanates from Rome, this is probably the most sensible!

I have plenty of issues with elements of catholicism. I am honestly not trying to bash anyone...I'm desperately asking if there is no catholic who can possibly grasp why this is irrational. So far all I've seen is defenses of it with no indication that any catholic can even grasp why it might be doubted and therefore off base.

That's why we call it "Goofy".

I am honestly not trying to bash anyone.

It's not bashing.....it's called....."Calling it as you see it!" It's just simply "Goofy"!

I'm not a Catholic. Although I was raised by a mother who was converted to Catholicism as a teenager - yes, through her nuns at high school.

She was Lutheran, and now I am. As it turns out, my grandmother was Catholic, but she suppressed it for her Lutheran husband. (Mom didn't know until she said she wanted to convert to Catholicism.)

So, I do have Catholic sympathies, but I am not part of it.
