I agree. That's why I pointed out a particular modern song that inspired me to worship. I love several old hymns (Come Thou Fount, Be Thou My Vision, And Can it Be, It Is Well With my Soul), but there are several that do nothing to move me into that frame of mind. I have to say that more modern worship songs do just that. But the opposite is true for others, so I think you have to have a good mix of both, which our church does.
I also realize that worship is not about the person, but about God. However, most people need a little prompting (music) to get their hearts and minds away from the outside world and into a spirit of worship.
Our church has a fantastic organist and she plays hymns and old sacred music. It's so uplifting. Our worship team does mostly the newer worship music but it's uplifting as well. I don't think God is as concerned about what kind of worship music we use. It's our heart for worship that He's most interested in. People who have never done that should try it sometime. It's wonderful. Mxxx
