What I am speaking of is the selling of offices, the holding of more than one office for financial gain, having "Bishops" who were only in the presence of their supposed flock at their own funerals, having Popes who openly paraded around mistresses and illegitimate children, and having one pope who apparently sponsored an orgy in the Vatican (Alexander VI). Perhaps you would not call that centuries of darkness, but it sure isn't reflective of acquaintance with the Light of life.
