Staring Into The Light
Captain Yip's Secret Journal ^ | 2/15/07

As we wait for the actions of the next few days, I'll repeat an image I've used before.

Most of us, those who observe and comment, who will be greatly affected by things done and not done this weekend in Tanzania, are like people who have been tumbled down a deep well. We're standing in water knee deep, staring up at the light. Shapes move up there, but we can't tell what they're doing. Are they getting ready to drop a rope to us? Or to drop bricks? We can't tell until the rope or the brick arrives. We can't even be sure they know we're down here.

We've had years of talk, but talk is coming to an end. Something must begin to happen, and not merely for our own sakes, but also for the future of Anglican Christianity here in North America. Talking is coming to an end. So I suggest that we keep in mind Matt. 21:28-31. It's the actions that will matter, not the words.

Matthew 21:28-31
The Parable of the Two Sons
28 “But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go, work today in my vineyard.’ 29 He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went. 30 Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?”
They said to Him, “The first.”
Jesus said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you.
