February 12, 2007

A reader sent me the following photos of the office doors of two professors at University of Detroit Mercy, "a Catholic university in the Jesuit and Mercy traditions."

Gloria H. Albrecht, according to the school's Web site, is "Associate Professor of Religion and Ethics, teaches business and economic ethics, feminist ethics and theology, and women's studies. Albrecht's publications and presentations deal with issues of community, economic justice, women's issues, and epistemology in ethics. She is doing research on economic paradigms as challenged by women's work. She has served as the director of the Women's Studies program. Albrecht holds a B.A. degree from the University of Maryland, a M.L.A. degree from Johns Hopkins University, a S.T.M. degree from St. Mary's Seminary (Baltimore), and a Ph.D. degree from Temple University. She joined the University in 1992."

You can make out the "I am Pro-Choice America" sticker on her name plate. She is also a supporter of same-sex "marriage."

The following photo — which speaks for itself — shows the door of Elizabeth A. Oljar, "Assistant Professor and Chair of Philosophy, teaches ethical theory, applied ethics, philosophy of law, political philosophy, and epistemology. She also teaches courses in women's studies. Oljar's area of expertise is ethics. In 1995, she was awarded an Excellence in Teaching Award by the University of Washington. Oljar holds a B.A. degree from Portland State University and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Washington. She joined the University in 1996."

Not surprisingly, the school's Web site contains links to Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL).

Why would a college professor put cheesy bumper stickers on her office door? Isn't that a priori evidence of the kind of shallow thinking that merits denial of tenure? ;)

If they're using sex as a weapon, they'll end up killing themselves with it.

Simple remedy. Sneak by and place an NRA and Exodus International sticker on their doors. A Jews For Jesus sticker would probably be pretty funny too, then you could tweak thier liberal anti-semite, anti-Christian bigotry nerve!

Looking at her pic, I would have to say that if dogs like her believe in the bumper sticker we should encourage the company to print more! Besides, lesbians are pretty much universally pro-molech

Show me one person who can say "I was aborted and I turned out just fine" and I will become pro-choice.

I'm starting to think its a blessing in disguise, all this worldwide BDS, ie, liberals posing as serious journalists and academics are so angry they have exposed themselves.

To the point of no return.

And now they will be treated as the political operatives they are, and no long given credibility in their professions.

Just one of this President's legacies.

. . . Associate Professor of Religion and Ethics. . .

It has been my observation that professors of religion and ethics are not especially religious or ethical.

Just for reference (and sadly most consumers, that is, college students, don't understand this distinction):

"Theology" as an academic discipline in a Catholic university refers specifically to Catholic theology. This includes the study of all religious subjects that Catholic theology might hold in common with the theologies of other religions.

"Religion" or "Religious Studies" is the study of religion since theology courses are applicable to Catholic formation, but religion courses are not, then any material suitable for theology OR religion would be presented in theology. Hence, "Religion" is only that which is not permissible in a theology course; in other words, it is a study purely of false religion, although the professors of Religion almost certainly disagree with that assessment which must be imposed apon them by the Church.

IOW, since the study of religion which is true is Catholic theology, a course in religion is necessarily purely heresy.

That is certainly a mature statement...I have heard many a college STUDENT make remarks of that kind.

XD EXACTLY!

In my opinion, if a guy doesn't have the guts to stand up for the rights of his own child, he's a wimp.
