We study our leading Christian figures. We don't venerate/worship them.
For us they remain life-sized.
So far as Luther is concerned, his smaller catechism reflected second thoughts on purgatory altogether. Apparently, he rejected it.
It is listed as totally unscriptural and unchristian by the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod....the MOST Lutheran of synods.
