These written ideas are what we call Scripture/New Testament.

FWIW, if you want to rely on oral teachings how do you know that they are being passed on accurately? Oral history is very suspect because it is so easily manipulated by the cultural and political pressures of the day.

Exactly. I agree. I work in an industry that has written procedures for just about everything you can imagine. If you get into trouble with the operation of something, don't even think of saying "I was told by so and so that this is how you do it."

Oral lessons are used, but not placed above the written lessons. That's because the written is most important and can be analyzed by many. How that gets turned around in Catholicism, I have no idea.
