If I remember my history, Napoleon was buried without embalming agents yet when his coffin was opened years later no evidence of decay was present. Some believe he was poisoned with arsenic.

The problem is that so many patent medicines and even "real" medications at the time contained LOTS of arsenic and other nasties that we now know to be poison.
