Bishop Thomas Doran of the Rockford Diocese is in good condition after undergoing lung surgery at the Mayo Clinic, a diocese spokesman announced at a news conference today.
Doctors removed about one-fourth of Dorans lung Thursday after spotting a malignant tumor during a routine physical earlier this month.
Doctors said they were confident that all the cancer has been removed and they expect Doran to make a full recovery.
When he is able to resume regular activities is still undetermined.
Meantime, Monsignor David Kagan will take over Dorans day-to-day duties.
Bishop Thomas Doran Doran was installed as Bishop in June 1994. The Rockford Diocese includes 11 counties in Northern Illinois - including Kane and McHenry - serving about 450,000 Catholics.
Saw your comment on another thread re: the possibility of a thread on Doran. Your wish is my command, oh Elk!
Bishop Doran is one of the good ones. Prayer bump for his full recovery.
Prayers for Bishop Doran.
