When 1960 arrives, the Pope does open the envelope, but refuses to tell the secret to the world. Subsequent popes likewise keep the secret hidden -- until June 26, 2000 when the Vatican releases what it says is the full text of the Third Secret.
OK, I guess it it the various Popes who decided that they knew better than Mary. IOW they weren't sold on the whole idea of the authenticity of Fatima??????

Rumor has it the Pope read the secret in 1960 but it was never confirmed.After the shooting of John Paul 11 on May 13,he asked for the info while he was in the hospital.
