Would the Apostle Paul himself be in favor of people venerating his casket? Answer: NO!

"Our objective was to bring the remains of the tomb back to light for devotional reasons, so that it could be venerated and be visible,"

Isn't 'ancestor worship' an ancient pagan practice?

Paul would not have wanted to be visited or touched, IMO.

He would want folks to venerate CHRIST....not him.

His writings clearly point away from himself and to Christ.

...for devotional reasons, so that it could be venerated and be visible

But it would be wrong and ignorant for anyone to cite this as further indication that Roman Catholics worship idols.

Given the prominence of the apostle Paul in the origins of Christianity (he did write the largest portion of the New Testament) and the importance of relics in the Catholic religion as objects of veneration, it is hard to believe that his remains would have been forgotten, not in the era of barbarian invasions, but during a 19th Century reconstruction. Builders and churchmen make errors, but this would appear to have been a major oversight.

That will teach you to post something of importance, NYer!

Notice that the discovery, history and importance are lost in a snippy set of "Your Not the Boss of ME" posts.

I'm curious about one thing.

Do any of you have family members or relatives buried in the cemetery? You do? OK, second question. Do you do anything to beautify their graves? Place flowers, maybe? A cross, perhaps? Keep them clean and tidy?

Maybe you spend a little time there......praying.....thinking....

Would this be considered "worship" or somehow an insult to Almighty God? The very idea is nonsensical, isn't it?

So why should St. Paul be any different? This man was the apostle to the Gentiles. He brought us our faith and left us a rich deposit in sacred Scripture. Should we leave his tomb buried under mounds of earth and rubble or should we give it the place of honor which it deserves, as we would our own relatives?

It's a no-brainer, isn't it?

Some of the comments on this thread are just plain scary and illustrate, yet again, why a Bible is a dangerous weapon in the hands of many people.

The interior of the sarcophagus has not yet been explored, but Filippi didn't rule out the possibility of doing so in the future.

Another incorruptible?

I guess it didn't take long for the anti-Catholic contingent to show up and spread their bile.

SIGH

While all of this ridiculous infighting among Christians continues, Satan laughs.

Come on fellow Protestants/Evangelicals, we need to lighten up here. If this is authentic, then it is an AMAZING find and a blessing to all Christians.

I mean, I am STUNNED thinking that this could actually be Paul's remains. If this is authentic, then it is a wonderful day.
